because the victim was an atheist --

An Arizona woman reportedly told police that she shot another woman for having a lack of religious faith. The suspect said that she kept the victim’s body as a “shrine from God.”

Phoenix officers were called to the home of 39-year-old Anitra Braxton on Dec. 26 and discovered a body on her couch covered in a towel after obtaining a search warrant, KSAZ reported.
During an interview at police headquarters, Braxton explained that the victim did not believe in God so she shot her in the eye, the police report said. She then kept the victim’s body on her couch for three days, calling it a “shrine from God.”
Braxton was charged with first-degree murder. The body had not yet been identified. Police said that evidence suggested the victim had been pregnant.

And this is without atheism being officially punishable by law.
Will this woman be punished at all?

She will most probably be charged with 1st or 2nd degree murder. Atheism will not be a factor. She could possibly go for not guilty by reason of insanity, but the US system doesn't often accept the insanity plea. And even then, one could end up in the asylum for a very very long time.

Clearly a case of mental illness. And illustrates nicely, incidentally, my view that religion and all its behaviors associated with beliefs in gods and spirits and angels and invisible sky people proceeds from mental states which we today categorize as "illness."

Well, she was found with a dead body in her house, has admitted to killing the person for reasons other than self-defense, and has been charged with first degree murder, so likely, she will get hard time. It appears she might actually be crazy, so, that might ameliorate whatever punishment she receives.

Crazy by the standards of where and when it happened. Somewhere else/some other time she's following the norm.

The insanity plea is usually a bad idea... prison sentences are finite. Commitment to a mental health facility is open-ended and basically lasts until no more money can be pulled out of the healthcare insurance system by the facility for the care of the patient (then they're 'cured')... so it is going to pretty much become a life sentence if they go that route.

Yeah, this wouldn't seem to be a well person .

She is likely mentally ill and needs treatment.

Oh my gosh! Did they actually arrest her for that?

THIS IS EVIDENCE THAT CHRISTIANS ARE BEING PERSECUTED! WHEN WILL THE OPPRESSION EN....

Oh.

Is she African-American? Never mind. Forget what I said.

Well, sure... but my comment was only that it is a poor strategy from a legal point of view, unless the accused is facing a life or very long sentence.
