A troop of chimpanzees kidnapped and killed a two-year-old boy in the Kibaale district in western Uganda over the weekend.
“The chimp undressed him and ripped him on the lower part of the abdomen, exposing the kidney,” said Semata. “It also banged the child’s head on the ground, opening his skull.”
In the district of Kibaale alone, where Mujuni was killed, there have been five instances in the past two years where chimps have attacked children.

Perhaps it was a tit for tat response to members of their own troop being hunted for bush meat.

An incident involving a dead child is probably a bad time for a joke.

If this is not a joke, why would you even speculate on the motives of a chimpanzee? Sure, they're our closest relatives, but they're still an entirely different species with instincts we don't have (such as the urge of males to kill the infants of other males before mating).

Nah, it's always humans doing bad things. Because I hate humans. Non-human animals must always have a reason to hate us, too. Because we need to be hated. For every reason.

I have a coworker that was abducted by monkeys in her villiage in India when she was an infant.
The villiagers gathered all the fruit they had and piled it up in the middle of the villiage. While the monkeys were distracted looting the pile, they were able to steal her back.

This apparently happens from time to time.

Chimps eat monkeys all the time, so it is not like they have any loyality to fellow primated

perhaps they thought he was a rival monkey?

perhaps they thought he was a rival monkey?

Their hunting strategies are surprisingly complex
