China mad at Trumpster

OK, here's the deal... China is pulling some shit, as usual. Corruption is a normal part of everyday business with them... it is culturally embedded. Not an insult to all Chinese, just a fact of their culture.... Like how the US is "a culture of material capitalism", China is "a culture of bribery". Anyway, this was a setup to attempt to give China a boost in future negotiations... start the conversations "insulted", and you get a slight lead. Trump's error was referring to the Taiwanese Leader as "The President of Taiwan" instead of "The President on Taiwan"... a slight nuance that China is hoping wins them some negotiation points.. or a kickback.. or something.

The earlier comment about how Trump tweets International Diplomacy happenings like a trip to IHOP with Grandma, was fucking hysterical... in a "this is exactly why we are all doomed" kind of funny way.

If Trump really did piss off China that is a good thing. He is only doing what he said he was going to do in his campaign speeches. China is already at economic war with the US and fortunately Trump knows this even if most people on this board do not.

Hopefully there will be more feathers flying with China after Trump actually goes to the white house.

I like the Chinese as I worked for a state corporation for several years but it is actually campaigning a trade war against the West. High tarrifs appear on Western goods while it sells steel and other products below production price to undercut the local markets. This was subsidized by the Beijing government.

Past governments did nothing thinking this was somehow fair competitive trade.

This is really political posturing for in China we have the phrase 'Diplomacy is a continuation of War by other means' (Chau En Lai).

There was no mistake. Taiwan has been a main US ally for years, before and after the recognition of the Beijing government. Ideally Taiwan should be a separate country which it is but China regards it as a province.

The US will continue to trade with both. The PRC and USA have a lot to lose if they seriously fall out.

You give too much credit.. Trump's use of the word "OF" versus "ON" was not a strategic, thought out, ploy to set the table for diminutive talks with China. It was just impulsive and ignorant 16-year-old-level Tweeting... followed by an impulsive and ignorant 16-year-old-level response to the comment China made about it... "but SHE STARTED it (WAAAAH)!"

Unless the US want to recognize 2 Chinas I think nothing will change.

There is diplomatic capital and Trump spent some, on absolutely nothing of value. This small stuff actually matters.

My gawd! We had to size up right-wingers for Pampers after Obama bowed to the Saudi King. Now all of a sudden there seems to be a bit more latitude amongst right-wingers. Kind of like 9/11 v Benghazi.
