As I argued in another thread, racism isn't just a property of individuals, I think it's a property of culture.
Guess what, kids? Black people can be racist against black people. If you don't believe me, I refer you to the "doll test" that has been going on in various forms since the 1940s. If you show a toddler a "white" doll and a "black" doll, then ask the child to point to the "smart" or "good" doll, they point to the "white" doll. This happens whether the toddler is white or black.
There are plenty of other studies of wildly different methodologies that point to the same conclusion.
For example, there are criminal conviction rates.
White people and African-Americans have different conviction rates.
White supremacists conservatives and libertarians alt-right free speech warriors argue that African-Americans have higher conviction rates because they are inherently more criminal, which just proves that they don't understand what the statistic represents.
In order for their to be an innocent, non-racist explanation for the different conviction rates, we have to believe that cops do a more careful job of investigation when the suspect is African-American, and are less careful and less thorough when investigating white suspects, thus when the trial goes to court, juries are more likely to find the white defendants innocent because white people are more likely to be falsely accused of crimes.
That's the only non-racist explanation for the different conviction rates. Saying "black people are more criminal, therefore it's not racist" just proves that you are racist. The conviction rate is the ratio at which people are convicted of a crime to being charged with a crime.
Anyway, if you look at the data, not only do you find that white jurors are more likely to find white defendants innocent, but you find that African-American jurors are also more likely to find white defendants innocent and African-American defendants guilty.
Again, this is because both white jurors and black jurors have internalized the racist assumptions of our culture, and not because white people are more likely to be falsely accused of a crime. Stop arguing that. That argument is absurd. Making it just makes you sound both stupid and racist. Yes, I know you're alt-right free speech warriors, but couldn't you, I dunno, pretend to not be stupid and evil? Just stop using that "the conviction rates are different because them thar black peepul're a buncha criminals. Now iff'n y'all will excuse me, ah has tuh git back t' fuckin' mah sistuh." argument. Just stop.
When I argue that racism is also a property of culture, not just a property of individuals, I get objections from minorities and white people, pro-racist and anti-racist alike, so go ahead and call me out on this if you like. Frankly, my argument for this is pretty flimsy. It sounds awfully close to a "how else do you explain it" argument from ignorance fallacy.
But the thing is, the vast majority of people don't intend to be racist. Most white people don't intend to be racist against African-Americans, and African-Americans certainly aren't intentionally prejudiced against African-Americans.
If culture is a series of assumptions/premises that we don't realize we're making, and if the culture itself is racist, couldn't that explain the prevalence of obvious racism in society and in institutions despite the fact that almost no one is consciously choosing to be racist?
Or do you argue that people are deliberately racist more often than they admit? If so, why do we find scientific evidence of anti-black bias in African-Americans?
If you argue that institutional/societal racism doesn't exist, then you're just divorced from reality, and I'm not sure how it's possible to have a dialog with you. I'm sorry, but I lack both the patience and the desire to deal with your delusions. Go back to the Stormfront message boards.
