College Football Players Union Nixed

I don't see that this has to do with my analysis supporting the conclusion that the Arena Football League and the CFL have access to far more just below NFL caliber players than Northwestern or NCAA schools in general.

Yeah, that's all it takes to compete with the NCAA. :picardfacepalm:

What else does it take?

Why aren't these leagues raking in the money the NCAA does?

Nice Squirrel already laid it out for you in post #166.

Reread the enitre thread and then have a trusted friend explain it to you.

It seems Ziprhead finds your explanation as ridiculous as anyone else would, so I want to see what he thinks.

It's not NS that I find ridiculous in this thread. Would you like to make another guess as to whom I find ridiculous?

OK, let's accept that post #166 lists all the things that cause the NCAA to make more money than the CFL or the Arena League or the other minor leagues of football that have been incarnated.

If it's those things -- and not the players -- why would the players be entitled to the money?

Yes, people come to watch an empty field. People support the empty field of their favorite school. People buy logo-ware of the schools with empty fields.

Another dismally-dense dismal argument.

I didn't detect an answer to the question there.

You agreed earlier that the reason the NCAA was able to make so much more money than the Arena league (which also has players on a field) is a list of things that have absolutely nothing to do with the players.

It seems the NCAA has created a brand, an image, a set of traditions, etc that are responsible for creating the revenue and that brand and image and set of traditions are highly rooted in "these people are Northwestern students playing for the pride of the school for no more than an athletic scholarship so you alumni should support the crap out of our team". If the NCAA wanted the brand and the image and traditions something more like the Appalachian League it could go with "hey everyone knows these players play football at a level that is no where near as good as the NFL, but it's players playing football and our tickets are only $5 and -- and it's dollar hotdog night" then maybe it would make sense to lure players in with minor league level salaries of $1000 or $2000 a month.

As I said, dense.

Actually, I just made myself a sandwich and a cold drink. I feel pretty good.

Does it make you feel good when you try to foist your passive-aggressive, "I don't understand your point" act on us?

What becomes of all the money these schools make from these sports teams? Are universities in the US for-profit? Do investors get the money out of this? Or does this money go towards educating other students, paying for teaching and research, and building infrastructure at the schools? How does it work exactly?

They pour most of it back into the sports program.

Our student-athletes have personal assistants to help them with those pesky academic forms and get past administrators who want to treat them like regular students, not the fragile babies that they are. And our coaches need 2-3 million a year, not to mention the sexual harassment lawsuit settlements.
