Commander of U.S. Navy's futuristic new destroyer is ... Captain James Kirk. No, really.

 
 
 
That's just awesome in every way. What makes it even better is that the US Navy is currently building a new aircraft carrier called the Enterprise and it's going into service in 2025. I want this guy to do a good job so that ten years from now he gets a promotion and becomes Captain of the USS Enterprise ... or that he does a bad job and needs to wait ten years for his next promotion. I'm not sure how promotions work in the US Navy.

Regardless of what leads to it, I want this guy to become captain of the Enterprise. I don't even care if he's competent. If making him captain of the Enterprise ends up starting WWIII and killing us all, I'll consider that an acceptable trade-off.

I think I'd settle for a Picard if it meant I could avoid being incinerated.
