Win For Workers! Connecticut Becomes First State to Pass Minimum Wage Over $10
The new bill will raise pay for almost 230,000 workers in the state.

March 27, 2014

In a move that is hoped to win over voters this fall, the Connecticut General Assembly has voted for legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2017, CT Mirror reported.

The bill, which passed 87 to 54 in the House and 21 to 14 in the Senate, would raise the state minimum wage on January 1st in each of the next three years to $9.15 in 2015, $9.60 in 2016 and finally $10.10 by 2017. This will affect some 227,000 workers in the state, which amounts to about 15 percent of the workforce.

The great experiment is on. Current unemployment rate in Connecticut is 7%. Will $10.10 be a big "job killer"
or not? By 2018 we will find out. The highest MW is currently Washington at $9.32. Uemployment rate there is 6.4%, nationwide it's 6.7%. Vermont is $8.60. Unemployment is 4.0%.

What's Connecticut? Is it that place near New York which used to be a State before government interference in the economy turned it into a radioactive, zombie-infested hellhole?

How long do you think that Connecticut has before the massive unemployment starts? Will it even wait for the minimum wage to go up? Will it be causal the same way that Obama caused the largest recession since the Great Depression in 2007 just on rumors that he would be elected President and sworn in two years later? Will the entire state slide into Long Island Sound because of this horrible miscalculation?

I have never seen such hysteria as the minimum wage stirs up among certain people over at that obsolete, ill-modern discussion board that I use to post on. I am hoping to meet a better class of people here.

It's not like it's going to do much of anything, good or bad. People are arguing over whether a black umbrella or pink one stops the rain better

It's sorta cart before the horse. The way to raise wages is to decrease unemployment and increase NGDP growth. Places like Australia have such a healthy wage system for that reason. Its minimum wage is a byproduct, not a driver

Good thing those states up there are small.

When every business in Connecticut closes, the residents won't have far to go.

Hey, where's the eating_popcorn smiley???
