Cybernetics is the study of control through feedback. Until the mid 20th century, computer and robot control systems were often included as part of the discipline, but these became large enough fields to warrant their own designations, and cybernetics minus these areas of study stopped grabbing headlines and faded back into relative obscurity, after a brief time in the sun.
But it never went away, and it is still studied, particularly in relation to government control of society.
