Dem Party Debate

Oh, and in case we didn't already know it, Huckabee is a major bigot
Because he made a slightly non-PC joke about North Koreans eating dogs? A similar joke was made over 30 years on on the British sitcom "Only Fools and Horses" and countless other times in between. Are they all "major bigots" as well? It's more like political correctness run amok.

So Huckabee says, "I trust Bernie Sanders with my tax dollars about as much as I trust a North Korean chef with my labrador."

Huckabee was being a triangulating tool. He wanted the Xenophobic branch of the Republican party to like his tweet. However, he did not want to offend any Asian Americans so he didn't write "Asian chef" or "Chinese chef" or "Vietnamese chef" or "South Korean chef." He tried to see how the wind would blow in his party and independents to pick specifically "North Korea" as his target.

Guys! Guys! Big news!!!

I just found out - this 'November election' everyone is getting excited about? It's not until November 2016!

There's more than a year to go, so all of this is going to be ancient history by Election Day.

See you all back here in about fifty weeks time, for some serious discussion?

The campaigns are going on for years and we should really be aware of the debates to be politically informed even if the first debate happens more than a year from the election.

But you will miss the nose picking controversy!

That will be saved for the 2020 election campaign... which will begin in December 2016 with the declaration of the failure of the (sanders/clinton) presidency.

Gee, it couldn't have anything to do with North Korea's history of mass starvation, could it? Nawwwww...that wouldn't be playing the tiresome race card.

In the meantime, for those outside the bubble:

Q: What's the fastest animal in the world?
A: An Ethiopian chicken.

I assume he knew that since North Koreans control the institutions of power in North Korea jokes about North Koreans can't be racist.

Huckabee could have chosen any other scenario, but he chose Asians and eating dog. He chose it for a reason: he is irrelevant and looking to pry a few more bucks from the only people that will give him money. Racist-fascists.

He chose it because he knew how it would resonate with most unfevered non-left people. That joke is non-racist because most the unfevered folks spontaneously take it as a reference to the hunger in North Korea.

Actually, you are making two unintended points:

First, if after hearing the joke the image that first popped in your mind was of race...then who is the racist? Who is projecting their own inability to see North Korea as anything other than a race?

Second, how is it you can claim your eruption of "racial" imagery precludes those who hear the joke and instantly recall North Korea's famines?

In other words, are you not (and your like minded) the racists - incapable of giving the same equality of 'human foibles' for Poles, Jews, Catholics, Mormans, Germans, New Yorkers, and many others folks use in their jokes?

Only the ignorant or the deluders would believe that. It is a blatant obvious racial slur, not even high enough to be a dog whistle. Like I said, he could of chosen a better analogy like leaving his daughter alone with Josh Duggar, but no, he went racist.

And to the rest of your points, how do I know it was racist? Because for all of my adult life I have heard racial slurs against Asians explicitly involving the eating of dogs. Huckabee could not have lived this long without knowing this.

Alas, you have backed deeper into the swamp of your unintended points:

First, if after hearing the joke the image that first popped in your mind was of race because to you North Koreans are an Asian race...then who is the racist? "Who is projecting their own inability to see North Korea as anything other than a race?"

Second, how is it you can claim your eruption of mental "racial" imagery applies to those who hear the joke and instantly recall North Korea's famines?

In other words, are you not (and your like minded) the racists - incapable of giving the same equality of 'human foibles' for Poles, Jews, Catholics, Mormans, Germans, New Yorkers, and many others folks use in their jokes?

Whether or not one considers joking about Chinese restaurants serving dog is an intended "racial slur" (I spent a summer in Taiwan and yep, they do eat dog and I have eaten it several times), your inability to see a nation of people beyond their race is most telling.

You're not a Kraut, Limey or Frog are you? (Gasp, white bigotry).

Bad 1984 joke.

Well if you want to prove that someone isn't being racially insensitive by trotting out the old "Asians eat dogs" trope, you trot out an old joke along the same lines!

You mean that if the old joke had been "...as much as I'd trust my pet dog in the hands an Ethiopian Chef", it also would been racist? Only if the listener refused to think about what is common knowledge about their famines. Only a ninnie would assume those nationalities was an intended slur against Africans or Asians.

Are "porch monkeys" a species of monkey?
If I were to say, "better not let Ben Carson around the fried chicken and watermelon", this would be a casual reference to his eating habits?

If you heard these you would know damn well what they meant. Huckabee knew damn well what he was saying and so do you.

Second, how is it you can claim your eruption of mental "racial" imagery applies to those who hear the joke and instantly recall North Korea's famines?

Because he wasn't referencing the famine, and he could have picked any other analogy and chose the one about Asians eating dog. He knew exactly what he was saying. Asian-Americans heard it loud and clear.

Absolutely. Huckabee knows his crowd. But your excuse that his crowd would know take it as reference to North Korean famines is ludicrous in more than one dimension. First, that "reason" does not indicate why the choice of "dogs". Why not cats or beetles or ants? Second, Huckabee's "crowd", like Huckabee himself, is Christian, USA centric: there is no reason to expect them as a group to pick up on the tacit reference (assuming it was there in the 1st place).

Huckabee is desperate for attention and he has no problem playing to the ignorant or the evangelically crazed or the redneck crowd. It would be refreshing to see someone who is so cynical about Democrats to apply the same level of cynicism to Republicans. It certainly would make your rants and jibes appear less hypocritical and ideologically motivated.

Sources have just said that Huckabee has stated that he supports selling petty thieves into slavery.

I'll hold off for a reliable source.
