I'm not a wine person. I generally don't drink it unless it's the only thing available, to be polite because my brother brought some over for a meal, or because certain meals just call for it.

But I maintain that wine just goes well with adventure games, particularly if they have a bit of a melancholy vibe to them.

Do you think that certain games or certain types of games call for certain drinks?

Whenever I would platy a Detective or Hidden puzzle/treasure game I'd have either dry red wine (for the mysteries) or champagne (for the treasure games), cuz they seemed to fit with the themes.

I thought I was the only weird one who picked my liquor on my game design/theme sometimes, lolz.

You're definitely not the only weirdo.

For me, long multiplayer sessions call for either heavily caffeinated drinks or beer, depending on who I'm playing with.

The original impetus for this:

Long ago, I got a gift certificate for Christmas, which I used to purchase the adventure game Syberia (1 and 2 packaged in together in the bargain bin). We had leftover opened bottles of wine in the 'fridge from Christmas dinner, so I played Syberia while curled up in a blanket and sipping on red wine. I was kind of shocked that the wine actually made the game experience better.

I mostly play fighting games and wine does not go well with them because after the first couple of bottles, it gets really difficult to hit all the button combinations you need to do the moves.

I used to love getting really drunk, then playing chess against someone else who was also really drunk. The results are hilariously awful ("Dude, I think you've been in check for 3 moves").

Back in my 20s, when I used to drink, Super Off Road for SNES with wine.
