When you are consuming audio and video do you think about what you are seeing and hearing mean?

Sexism, drugs, violence. Guys walking around with guns stuck in their pants. Music about abusing women or killing.

Does any of it register or do you just go with flow as the old saying goes.

In conversation do you support women's rights yet enjoy watching a movie where a woman is coerced into sex or tratedly roughly until submission. Is that stuff entertainment to you? Is endless killing with guns entertainment wjile mass shootings grow?

Do you mean do I watch the news? Seriously, though, as long as there is a moral attached to those things it's acceptable to me. It's not exactly Shakespeare but it's acceptable as entertainment. But gratuitous sex or violence I won't tolerate [ETA: for long].

I want to read more classic literature. I'll never feel I'm well-read; I can't imagine at what point I'd feel justified saying that. And there's so much I haven't read.

Do you/we sing the national anthem and revel in our militarism and slaughter across the globe? Do you/we beam with pride, chest trust outwardly to meet the hand over your/our heart(s) when you/we think of all our endless wars as you/we recite the Pledge of Allegiance?

You tend to be even more of a one note pony than Half-Life. Is everything okay at home?

You address something I've been thinking about lately.

Yeah, the mindless violence films give me the willies and I fear they socialise youngsters to emulation, to some degree.

OTOH, I worry about the argument than any portrayal of a wrong action should be suppressed. The portrayal of bad behaviour can be the best argument against it, and the film doesn't have to be overtly moralistic to achieve that.

It largely depends on the culture in which it is viewed.

But yeah. I try to feed my head more spinach than potato cakes.

I'm pretty much on the same page.

I avoid violent movies unless they make a point, have excellent actors and direction. Right now, my husband is watching some stupid violent movie, which I'm trying to tune out. I usually ask him to put on something else, but I'm trying to be nice and let him finish watching the idiotic movie.

Most of music I listen to is old school soul, or jazz. If the music has lyrics, it's either about love or social justice, so nothing objectionable to me.

But, I think one can enjoy music with objectionable lyrics without being influenced by them and without giving them much thought.

Yes and thanks for asking. I swore off US corporate state media outlets decades ago. Isn't it nice that Epstein can't inform us about our ruling aristocracy's penchant for pedophilia? And now, back to our family friendly programming and "americans; the exceptionals".

And you continually behave like he does via obfuscation and dodging, as demonstrated yet again, here. Why can't america invest in its own society and peoples like advanced 21st century nations?

We would rather fund endless wars of profit, resource control, aggression and empire across the globe. You will note your corporate state media never mentions this insanity. Well of course not, look at the advertisers; it's the for profit war industry.

What about the mindless violence of a warlike nation?
