I don't. Why in the world do you assume that this particular person would continue to lunge at the police and that the officer would be immobile after the first sidestep or that there wouldn't be better shot at tasering or using some other method of subduing him?And why in the world do you think sidestepping will keep the guy from simply turning to where you now are???
I never saw the man in question move to an aggressive stance and wield his weapon in a manner that would threaten the cop if he merely stepped back and let his backup use perhaps a taser or perhaps just a little more talk. It is clear the guy that got shot was confused and not assuming a threatening stance even as he walked forward. He did not appear to be in very good shape or particularly coordinated. He was merely shot for no reason. Fear and lack of training gives you scenarios like this.
