Eliminating Empathy

I've been hearing more from the right wing how dangerous empathy is. Like Muskrat saying:

While Musk said he believes in empathy and that “you should care about other people,” he also thinks it’s destroying society.

“The fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy, the empathy exploit,” Musk said. “There it’s they’re exploiting a bug in Western civilization, which is the empathy response.”

And at least two books. The Sin of Empathy: Compassion and Its Counterfeits and Toxic Empathy: How Progressives Exploit Christian Compassion

Both seem to be about how people are exploiting your empathy, using it to destroy you by getting you to help their evil schemes. Two thing come to mind hearing this. First, this is a ploy to get people to abandon their empathy so they are less likely to do something about the abuses and oppression the right wants to inflict on the groups they don't like. Second is this will probably be repeated by the same people who like to claim christians are frequently persecuted in the US.

Anyone else seeing examples of trying to suppress empathy?

He means empathy for those people. It isn't hard to figure out who those people are for Musk and the GOP in general.

They also frame any and all recipients of charity as criminals, fundamentally undeserving, while it is considered an "investment in our future" to donate money to a billionaire on nothing but a wish and a promise that he'll do something with it.

And they are intent on destroying the humanities and social sciences as "useless" majors in favor of "career-oriented" majors that just happen to dump most Americans into the market toward the bottom of a very long ladder of professional hierarchy. Their motives are obvious, but have the side effect of suppressing any and all knowledge of other cultures and other ways of life.

You should have empathy for the put-upon bros but that's about it. It is the rich folks' divine right to be in their place. They are anointed and everybody else needs to accept their position.

It is an evil leftist trick to try to get you to have empathy for the field hands, to have empathy for someone that runs from gangs and seeks asylum only to be sent to his demise in a prison, to have empathy for the poor people that get bilked by MLM scams, to have empathy for someone that has to terminate a pregnancy when they know they have no chance of affording to raise a child...

No it is the DeVos's divine right to funnel public money to their elite schools while using public charter schools as nothing but a worthless grift.

If you want to be a winner you need to hate everybody the GOP hates they same way they hate them.
