Exact Audio Copy Slow

Hi,
I've just started using EAC, which works fine apart from being slow; it took some time for me to get it as fast as it currently is. I used to use Audiograbber (ripped a 40 minute CD in a couple of minutes), then moved to free:ac (slower, maybe three minutes) now EAC (much slower, ten minutes or more).
I know EAC does a lot of checking, so is this just something I should accept?

I thought audio CDs store the digital information perfectly - and they can detect and correct minor errors. I get the impression that EAC can detect any errors even when they normally would be corrected. I've been ripping a lot of DVDs lately and I've noticed that some can read at about 12x normal speed while others are 2x or 3x and I've come across parts that go below 1x (which could be a problem if you're playing that in a DVD player)

BTW I am ripping a lot of DVDs because I am reselling used ones and it is an easy way of checking whether the DVDs have any issues.
