Faux has just fired its journalists. No more real journalism. No more inconvenient fact checking.

.....
THE FALLOUT FROM Fox News’ $787.5 million settlement with Dominion Voting Systems continued on Friday, with the network dissolving its investigative unit.

“The rank and file journalists are getting let go. Meanwhile, upper management are sitting pretty while they are the execs responsible for the Dominion debacle,” one Fox employee tells Rolling Stone, which has confirmed the unit has been axed. “We are the sacrificial lambs.”

“Yes, [layoffs] have happened,” another staffer confirms. “And continue to happen.”
......

Meanwhile, CNN CEO is braying that conservatives are finally back on air at CNN. After CNN laid of some well regarded journalists there. And Christian cable outfit Trinity Broadcasting is looking to hire journalists for the 2024 election. Oh joy. American cable TV. Now with 25% more lies, propaganda and hate.

I guess it’s more cost effective to report whatever rumors you hear and retract it later when real journalists figure out the truth.

This could have legal repercussions for Faux going into the future. Giving up on real journalism, that is fact checking and making a good faith effort to ascertain real facts from baseless accusation on part of its commentators will make possible future lawsuits easier to win in a court of law. Faux has essentially abandoned any sort of due dilligence. They just threw away their little fig leaf, they're purely agitprop now.

Their online talent no longer has any internal sources they can use to check their own claims before they bray them out. You can bet that in future lawsuits, this fact will be a major foundation for asserting irresponsible behavior on the part of Faux.

I think it's worse from a legal perspective to have an internal investigative group that you ignore when they tell you you're airing lies. Removing them allows a stronger argument for "plausible deniability".

They are allowed to lie, they are not allowed to defame. And defamation cases are usually hard to prove.

Oh yeah. Being examined in court. "We did have journalists who checked the facts, but we fired them and shut down our fact checkers." I am sure that will get them off the hook in further court cases.

They are effectively becoming OAN and Newsmax. Amazing how a shittier news product actually won out.

I guess eliminating fact checkers makes it easier for them to be suckered into promoting obvious bullshit right wing talking points.

I'm surprised the usual suspects around here didn't promote the story and it only got mentioned by Ziprhead today. Tim Pool was apoplectic then mysteriously deleted his youtube clips on his channel about it.

Newsmax becomes the new infowars. Fox News becomes the new Newsmax. CNN becomes the new Fox News. And broadcast television, thanks to Sinclair, becomes the new AM Talk Radio.

The Circle of Life.

So she served. Suffered mental trauma, looks like she lied about being in a coma for six months, and now is acting like a person who is suffering from mental illness, not uncommon to people who served in his stress situations. It sounds like she needs help.

What I find interesting is that Maher didn't apparently get a second source for the story, like... didn't ask the hotel manager for an explanation type of thing. No one.

Just went with it. Such journalistic integrity.

So from Faux, no follow up. No explanation of how this hoax went national with right wing media. Why it was not checked for accuracy at the start. No mention of how Faux plans to deal with outrageous garbage claims in the future.

Um, do they need to mention plans? We all know the plan. Run it. Run it Run it. Somebody else "said" it and they are just reporting it. People are saying...

Yeah, if I were on a jury this would be a smoking gun to me. You respond to a verdict against you for lying by removing the existing internal checks?? That's an admission you knew. Typically the actual malice standard is very hard to meet--but as far as I'm concerned Faux just defaulted to meeting it.
