Fox Business suddenly cancels 'Lou Dobbs Tonight,' its highest-rated show

Lou Dobbs, the longtime host of the signature right-wing talk show on the Fox Business Network, was canned by the network on Friday night.

"Lou Dobbs Tonight" is off the air, effective immediately, a Fox spokesperson confirmed. An interim show will take Dobbs' place at 5 and 7 p.m. Eastern starting Monday.
It was a head-scratching change by Fox Business, since Dobbs was its highest-rated host, albeit on a relatively low-rated network. He often doubled his lead-in's ratings, which is a rare feat in television.

Wow, sometimes actions do have consequences.

I think fox is really really scared about those lawsuits from Smartmatic and Dominion.

Good.

LOLd at Fox’s presser: “we were gonna make that change anyway. Change is somethign we do. We;ll let you know when we decide on a replacement for this planned ending.”

Hahah

I can speak to this. When I was laid off from my last media job, I walked out the door with my box 'o stuff just before the meeting where they announced the plan to replace me. It had been in the works for at least a month. I've also been in meetings where the outgoing person's "resignation" was announced and the new person was introduced to the staff. This was IMO a situation where they were caught flat-footed and had to make a move. In any case, the host's contract often precludes them from talking about what happened for a period of time after they were sacked. I was contractually obligated to not make any "disparaging remarks" until my severance ran out. I guess we'll see if Lou had that.

They're replacing him with Trump, I'm calling it.

What? No. They are getting sued for telling lies that harmed someone.

Why in the name of any randomly chosen deity would they turn around and give Florida Man their platform to tell revenge lies, even to increase their audience?
That's like excising a small tumor, then using a leaking reactor to heat your bath water.
No, not even FOX would be that stupid.

Unless you meant Ivanka, maybe? She can at least remember lawyer briefs for thirty minutes.

Newsmax certainly is afraid of lawsuits.
Kind of...

Get ready to lose all hope.
article said:
The Beast separately reported that Sellers has issued a definitely-not-forced apology blaming “confusion” over what topic the segment was supposed to cover.

“Mike thought that we were to talk about vote fraud in the recent election. It’s a topic we have covered extensively on Newsmax,” Sellers told viewers on Wednesday afternoon. “I was frustrated that we couldn’t focus on the current, very pressing issue of free speech and cancel culture and, in hindsight, there is no question that I could have handled the end of the interview differently.”

“At Newsmax, we seek out all points of view. Mike was back on Newsmax last night with Rob Schmitt on his show to continue the conversation about cancel culture and the censorship by social media,” Sellers added. “Mike also made clear he thinks Newsmax is ‘great’—his words—and I can tell you he will continue to be an important guest on Newsmax.”

So, improved ratings (lead-in anyways) and weak performance with advertisers if you choose to believe "one of the sources says" could portend a code of ethics in advertising budgets is a brewin'.

What CNN left out: “As we said in October, Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes and plans have been in place to launch new formats as appropriate post-election, including on Fox Business,” a Fox News spokesperson said. “This is part of those planned changes.”

Good old CNN. They'll omit a quote but leave in "sources says".

Some pundits think Faux sacrificed Dobbs to save themselves in court later on. Of course other Faux lying heads still are on air at this time. And sacrificing Dobbs won't save Faux. Plus then we still have some Faux pundits who have not yet been dealt with, like Rush Limpbrain, who was just as bad about this as Dobbs. More shoes to drop? After all, it would look bad in court to complain that Dobbs was targetted but Rush got a walk on the same thing. Perhaps sue Rupert Murdoch? The problem is lawsuits are expensive. Should Smartmatic start a Go Fund Me page to sue everybody to put and end to right wing media lying and propaganda of destruction broadcasting? Would you toss $20.00 into the hat to see Faux crushed like noisome insect? How about media companies like Cumulus who own radio stations that pump out Rush and Hannity's destructive lies nation wide?

Well, hopefully this means that Fox Business really wants to get back to business, rather than their cooky right wing political activism. I used to really like Fox Business shows. Lou has been going cooku for a long time. But I used to really like Maria Bartiromo. But she's really gone to the dark side. I assume that Fox is trying to rein her in in order to get the moderates interested in business back.

...
Lou Dobbs Tonight has been canceled at Fox Business. Lou Dobbs had joined Fox after his birtherism led to him being forced out at CNN, became known at Fox for his over-the-top pro-Trump propaganda. Former President Donald Trump frequently tweeted about and made decisions based on Dobbs' program. The news about his departure comes only a day after Dobbs and Fox News was named in a nearly 2.7 billion dollar lawsuit filed by voting technology company Smartmatic; there are indications that a similar suit from Dominion Voting Systems is forthcoming.
...

Dominion suing would be rather interesting. Fox, OAN, Newsmax et al being swarmed by lawyers.

Fox tells Lou Dobbs to fuck off huh? They are always behind the times, I told him to fuck off decads ago.

meanwhile, a lawsuit against Rachel Maddow by OAN was thrown out and has cost OAN dearly

"A federal judge in California has ordered Herring Networks, the parent company of far-right conservative media organization One America News Network (OAN), to pay MSNBC and host Rachel Maddow $250,000 in attorney's fees stemming from a defamation lawsuit that was dismissed last year," Law & Crime reported Saturday.
"Herring in July 2019 filed a lawsuit against Maddow which claimed the liberal host had defamed OAN when she discussed reports that one of the network's contributors also worked for the Russia state news organization Sputnik. Maddow went on to state that OAN 'literally is paid Russian propaganda,' which OAN's parent company claimed was false and defamatory. Herring, the parent company, then filed a defamation lawsuit seeking $10 million," Law & Crime explained. "Attorneys representing Maddow and MSNBC responded by filing a special motion to strike the case under California's Anti-Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (Anti-SLAPP) law."

Nice!

Pre-Trump, I was only vaguely aware of Lou, and because I never willingly subject myself to Fox, I knew of him, at second hand, as someone whose big themes seemed to be the trade deficit and later, The Caravan. I read one of his books (Exporting America) which is about outsourcing and is fairly well-reasoned. Dobbs really gives it to the big corporations, which I didn't expect of him.
But since Trump, he's become pure toxic garbage, and post-election, he's as big a (pick one: fool? nutburger? sycophant? co-conspirator?) as Rudy. They let go with their angry drivel, and you keep expecting a caretaker to come into frame and wipe spittle off their chins.

Lou Dobbs has always blamed immigrants for the failings of American industries instead of the corporations seeking cheap labor as every other halfassed capitalist does. This why I told him to fuck off years ago.

It wasn't the anger or the spittle that led FoxNews to demote Dobbs. Nor the lying and repetition of untruths. And it certainly wasn't the sycophancy. FoxNews didn't care that the few viewers they had with a three-digit IQ were turning him off in disgust: Their business plan is to target viewers of low intelligence.

No, it wasn't any of these things. It was lawsuits finally pushing back against lies! I guess that's the American Way.

Hitler had his Jews and it worked for him. Dobbs has his immigrants and it works for him. Lots of sub-literates buy into his xenophobia and fear peddling.
