I attended my first bluegrass festival with these people a little more than ten years ago. If someone had told me then how much I would have enjoyed it, I would have told them they were nuts. But I had a great time. My BiL was friends and invited so long ago and we've spent many nights sitting around a campfire listening to Kris and George tell their stories.

A lot of the bands stay in the campground and are up picking and grinning all night long. You could just walk from camp site to camp site and hear world class bluegrass musicians sitting around campfires all night long. George Karr is a legend amongst those folks, as attested to by the license plates from all over the country.

I still remember when he put a punk bluegrass band on the bill. He took a lot of heat for that. The dobro player reminded me of Joe Strummer. But they were good and I bought one of their cds just to support them. But George was open to new talent.

Spent many weekends with George and Kris, outside of bluegrass festival activities. When he's gone, it's going to leave a hole.

George is gone. Passed during the night. He made it through his last festival.
