Gallup Polling - Democrats Are Out Polling GOP

 
 
 
It needs to be over 55%, though, to account for the undemocratic gerrymandering of the GOP desperately clinging to any power they can pry from the battered fingers of Liberty.
 
But so far, this is a good start. November 2022 is a long way away, but if Biden and the Democrats can show real progress in getting good and important things done, the GOP offering of lunacy, vote theft, racism, and general obstructionism may end up being a political dead end by then.

Trump did not manage to win significantly larger shares, nor was winner Joe Biden able to peel away religious voters from the Trump coalition.

What is clear is that Trump lost a good amount of ground among the religious unaffiliated. Trump's share of the atheist vote declined from 14% in 2016 to just 11% in 2020; the decline among agnostics was slightly larger, from 23% to 18%.
Additionally, those who identify as "nothing in particular" — a group that represents 21% of the overall U.S. population — were not as supportive of Trump in his re-election bid. His vote share among this group dropped by three percentage points, while Biden's rose by more than seven points, with the Democrat managing to win over many of the "nothing in particulars" who had backed third-party candidates in the 2016 election.

Interesting. The Nones, Nothing-in-Particular and atheists gave Biden his victory. So much for right winged culture wars in the ballot box.
 
Right. The GOP has to be running scared. Their base has been radicalized to the point that they can't see any new approach that will keep the faithful on board. So, instead of doing what most parties would do after a defeat -- huddle to understand what happened, and finally calibrate the message -- they're going buck wild (to use a MAGA expression from '16) on disincentives to vote. Their idol is nuts, and they dare not criticize him, and they have no idea what he'll be doing in three years.
 
Yes. The problem is, in red states like Idaho, Oklahoma, Alabama et al, they are stuck with the wingnuts and MAGAts. To win election in states like this, politicians have to bow to the whackos. Or be primaried. But the Blue states see people not accepting wingnut candidates. And voting Democratic. There is no way for the GOP to cater to possible swing voters in Blue states and the crazies in the red states. Younger cohorts are tending to Nones and Not any thing in particular. The craziness we are seeing now from the GOP is going to make the GOP a hard sell in nationwide elections. Crawling into bed with Christian nationalism is long term, probably a bad move for the GOP.
