Gaza "beach" -- what really happened

Israel is not under existential threat!!!! Surely you jest!!!!

Israel hasn't been under existential threat since the mid-1970s. That's why it can afford to expand into the West Bank. There's no one strong enough to stop it, or even slow it down.

Then who's firing rockets indiscriminately on to Israeli civilians? Let me guess, Mossad?

The rockets threaten the peace and security of Israeli citizens living near Gaza. They might cause Israel to stop expanding into Palestinian territory. They have zero chance of ending Israel's existence.

The rockets currently are capable of reaching main population centers of Israel, so they're not only threatening people "near Gaza". Except in the sense that the entire Israel is near Gaza. Even if it is silly hyperbole to try to paint the rockets as an "existential threat", no people should have to live in fear of their neighbours randomly sniping them off.

Also, the rockets have absolutely no chance of stopping Israeli expansion in West Bank, on the contrary they accelerate it. There hasn't been a single rocket fired at the settlements in West Bank.

One nuclear bomb could easily wipe out the only Jewish State. Think if Hamas or any other terrorists had one or two bombs they wouldn't attempt to use then?

So there is no existential threat to Israel but if we imagine there could be one someday we can say Israel is under a possible future existential threat, and that's the same as Israel facing an existential threat right now?

Interesting.

I hope you have a bomb shelter in your backyard because Western Australia is under existential threat. Someone might someday have a nuclear weapon they want to use on you guys, and you know what that means.

That's nonsense and you know it. My home state is hundreds of times bigger in area than tiny Israel. Besides the fact that we don't have an enemy that has in its charter the destruction of WA.

Yes, I do know it. Just like it's nonsense to say Israel is facing an existential threat.

The threat posed to Israel's existence passed in the mid 1970s. Currently, Israel's existence is as assured as Western Australia's and Alaska's, which is to say it's pretty damn secure but not 100% guaranteed in all possible futures. We could be overrun and eaten by dinosaurs, if someone learns how to clone them from fossil DNA and they escape.

Palestine is facing an existential threat right now, though. Israel keeps gobbling up more and more of the West Bank and pounding Gaza into rubble and ruin. If this goes on much longer, there won't be a Palestine, just Greater Israel with a captive population it doesn't want and can't eliminate without becoming an international pariah.

They're just Jews, it doesn't matter if some die.

The more they attack Israel the more hardline the Israeli government gets and the more likely they would be to expand into Palestinian territory--not that they are doing so now.

That is a deplorable attitude. And it is just as deplorable when someone effectively writes "They're just Palestinians, it doesn't matter is some die."

Like little kids on a beach should not be threatened by Israeli rockets.

Maybe you should ask that from the Hamas leaders hiding in safe in their bunkers who decide to start these regular shooting matches?

That's hardly an existential threat.

And Israel isn't using saturation bombardment with daisy cutters--it's hardly an existential threat to the Palestinians.

Israel is crushing the lives of millions of Palestinians presently.

It is much more than a threat. It is a violent and brutal menace. A criminal state.

They were fucking kids, playing on a beach not Hamas leaders. What kind of a person is OK with that?

Some of us understand that what happened is the fault of Hamas, not Israel.
