Trump must be removed. So must his congressional enablers.

The nation’s downward spiral into acrimony and sporadic anarchy has had many causes much larger than the small man who is the great exacerbator of them. Most of the causes predate his presidency, and most will survive its January terminus. The measures necessary for restoration of national equilibrium are many and will be protracted far beyond his removal. One such measure must be the removal of those in Congress who, unlike the sycophantic mediocrities who cosset him in the White House, will not disappear “magically,” as Eric Trump said the coronavirus would. Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting.

In life’s unforgiving arithmetic, we are the sum of our choices. Congressional Republicans have made theirs for more than 1,200 days. We cannot know all the measures necessary to restore the nation’s domestic health and international standing, but we know the first step: Senate Republicans must be routed, as condign punishment for their Vichyite collaboration, leaving the Republican remnant to wonder: Was it sensible to sacrifice dignity, such as it ever was, and to shed principles, if convictions so easily jettisoned could be dignified as principles, for . . . what? Praying people should pray, and all others should hope: May I never crave anything as much as these people crave membership in the world’s most risible deliberative body.

Took him long enough.

I guess good for him finally speaking out, but this is what finally made him see the light? So he's only slightly less beholden to the gop masters than the rest of the bootlickers.

I can't remember 2016 anymore, but apparently he said 'suck it up and hope we can vote Clinton out in 2020'.

Uhm...George didn't just see the light...

Summer 2016 George exits the GOP:

2018 Vote against Repugs:

He not only quit the GOP at the end of the '16 primary season, he called Trump an 'ignorant lout', which, while it leaves out Trump's lying, juvenile, demagogic, pornographic tendencies, is a nice succinct phrase for SCROTUS.

Well, that’s it. Drumpf is finished. He lost George Will. He’ll never get elected. Oh, wait.

George Will has always been his own man. If he wears a label, it’s “avid baseball fan”.
Not really. He's always pretended.

Much like John McCain, he would occasionally take an oppositional stance, but only if it was politically and personally safe to do so. He may or may not have gotten over being that chicken shit. Hard to say yet.

When more and more conservatives are saying this is fucked up and you continue backing Mango Unchained, it means you’ve bought into the cult. Or all you care about are liberals being made uncomfortable.

With being uncomfortable meaning outraged that Trump used the National Guard to tear gas protestors so he could take a stroll for a Photo Op, while holding a bible. And Trausti be like ‘pwnage’ *glee*.

Four years late, trillions of dollars short. Suck it, George.

Nah, he's had the same views since Trump started running. He's been consistent. The republicans are going to lose the moderate middle. And they won't come back, until the dems start kicking the moderates out. It's a well known pattern!

Unfortunately true. When future generations ask why we couldn't solve our problems, it'll be because we lurched back and forth endlessly. As for Will, yes, he still has most all of the views that people like Gingrich and McTurtle have. Although he loathes Trump, one of his first columns after the election was to the effect that his side would own SCOTUS, and therefore Citizens United will never be overturned. He is smart enough to see how toxic and abnormal Donald is, though, and most of all, to SAY it.

George Will is one of many Republicans or conservatives that have been criticizing Trump since he was elected. Jennifer Rubin used to be a Republican, but she has been blasting Trump for years. Bret Stephens is still a conservative, but he despised Trump. If you're a newspaper junkie like I am, you would know that many of these editorialists have been anti Trump for years, even if they still support traditional conservative ideology. They are just smart enough, not that it takes too much intelligence to realize what damage Trump has done and continues to do to the country, to realize that even a Democrat who they might disagree with, is a much better option than Trump.
