A pro-Trump social media service has a major problem, according to a new report: It's not filtering out known images of child pornography.

Gettr, which was started by former Trump aide and spokesperson Jason Miller, has "very few – if any – mechanisms for detecting spam, violent content, pornography, and child exploitation imagery," a new study by the Stanford Internet Observatory said.

The study found 16 examples of images on Gettr that were flagged by PhotoDNA, a photo-moderation database, as "child exploitation imagery."

The PhotoDNA database is considered an industry standard tool for frontline defense against users uploading images of child pornography.

This is my surprised face.

Uncensored and unmoderated application becomes home to highly objectionable material. Really, about as unsurprising a turn as it gets. The only surprising part is that it is still up.

A thought here--does GETTR take donations or the like?

Because the credit card companies won't deal with any business with the slightest whiff of improper sexual material. Kiddie porn they won't take down? That's epic banhammer time (not just the business, but the people involved!) Onlyfans is about to commit de-facto suicide because of this. (Apparently some underage women were selling stuff on it.)

I've been interested in conspiracy theories for many years. When people with zero critical thinking skills get together they come up with wild, wild stuff. As you can imagine since Trump, qanon and covid it's brought to the surface the festering rot within society. The underlying racism, fear, and anxiety manifests itself in such bizarre ways. The backlash has been equally interesting.

It's purely for entertainment but it has obviously had some real, and disturbing impacts on culture as a whole in the last few years.

Even with an interest in this stuff, Gettr offers very little. Marjorie Taylor Greene ranting in all caps about masks, freedom, Mike Lindell promoting his businesses and election fraud...

It's interesting to note that with all these rubes in one place, the grifters have moved in and are having a field day with these people.

It's like baby sea turtles scampering helplessly to the ocean and the vultures circling overhead picking them off one by one.
