Never bought a new phone. I've always gotten mine off eBay then signed them up on secondary no-contract service providers.

Locking you in for two years is of some value to them so the price is a bit lower. You still pay most of the price of the phone, though.

And if you're off contract and don't renew at all there's a good chance your provider will lop off the phone subsidy from your rate. That's something I had to ask my provider for, though.

Yeah, if you don't pay attention they don't mind collecting the extra.

The first thing that needs to be checked before drawing any conclusions from this data is where the buyers are located.

It stands to reason people would look for phones in their own area first.

If buyers of 2nd hand iphones are more concentrated in good areas then this data could be explained simply by that.
