GOP in Bed With Trump's Mocking of Ford

President Donald Trump’s unscripted mockery of Christine Blasey Ford at a rally Tuesday night may have pleased the crowd. But back on Capitol Hill, the senators whose support he needs the most in the coming days to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court were stone-faced and unamused.

Some suggested it could impact their vote.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who also remains undecided on Kavanaugh’s nomination, told CNN that Trump’s comments were “just plain wrong.” She declined to answer questions later about whether Trump’s missives would affect her thinking on Kavanaugh.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who last week made his support for Kavanaugh contingent on the outcome of an FBI investigation into allegations of sexual assault leveled against the nominee, also condemned Trump’s comments, calling them “appalling.”

The GOP Senators did their best to make the appearance that what Trump did was very wrong. Trump had grossly oversimplified Dr. Ford's testimony to the Senate, to boisterous cheers of his brown shirt supporters, in order to mock the idea that she was a, what Trump had called last week, "very credible witness".

But seriously, can we cut the fucking bullshit?! Senators Flake and Collins have some out in measured support for Kavanaugh since the release a supplemental FBI investigation into Kavanaugh. To make matters worse, the report is supposed to remain secret, which means the public isn't likely to know just how little the FBI looked back into this.

What we do know is that information that exists out there proves Kavanaugh committed perjury when he said he first learned of the Ramirez accusation when it was reported by the New Yorker. More importantly, it gives weight to Ramirez's claims as Kavanaugh was looking for cover on that, before it went public.

While Trump openly mocked Dr. Ford, Senators Murkowski, Flake, and Collins are all mocking Dr. Ford and her courage for stepping up, in using this sham of an FBI supplemental investigation as cover for voting in a man that is unsuited for the bench. The hiding behind "corroborative" evidence is truly bullshit. We were pretty certain that the FBI, in less than a week, wouldn't be able to provide evidence of the incident. The supplemental investigation was about patches some of the unknowns regarding the claim. That was to be weighed between the emotional sincerity and consistency of Dr. Ford and the belligerent to some times unhinged and often obviously lying testimony of Kavanaugh. But Dr. Ford's testimony doesn't exist any more. What was once "credible" has become "irrelevant". Finding the testimony of a woman who very likely was sexually assaulted as irrelevant is preposterous. And no, this isn't about taking Dr. Ford's claims at face value. It is about her claims, her testimony, Kavanaugh's claims and testimony and piecing it with all the other stuff we are learning about him. This certainly isn't convictable, but his actions are hardly that of an innocent man.

It is ultimately saying "What a woman says happened doesn't matter, because a man says it didn't happen." Sure, the man is definitely in a position of a conflict of interest because if he admits to it, no Supreme Court for him, but that isn't relevant... only what Judge Kavanaugh says is relevant. I can't think of anything that mocks the victim of sexual assault more than only caring what the assaulter says that happened.

Fuck Senators Flake, Collins, and Murkowski and fuck their hypocritical criticism of Trump's mockery.

It's not like those are the only 3 voting for this asshole. The really atrocious thing all the others that never even pretended to be undecided, or swayed by evidence in anyway.

I disagree, the GOP will want this to look unanimous amongst themselves. It is why Flake and Collins have already been making measured positive statements regarding this supplemental farce.

Heitkamp has said she will not vote for confirmation, which could cost her the Senate seat she has. You only do that if you think Dr. Ford is telling the truth.
