This past week, Donald Trump announced that if elected he will prevent “foreign Christian-hating communists, socialists and Marxists” from coming to the U.S. He also suggested he would do something about the un-Christian socialists who already live here. He asked, “What are we going to do with the ones that are already here, that grew up here? I think we have to pass a new law for them.”

The audience at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference cheered Trump’s speech. Which makes you wonder about the relationship between faith and freedom in America. Will Americans round up and expel communists, atheists, and others?
....

Now, how do these Christian Nationalists plan to define who is a socialist or communist?

Acts 4 and Acts 2. God is a communist.

Acts 4
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

Your title does not match the quote. Any reason why you changed "Marxists" to "atheists"? Or why a statement by Trump became "GOP war"?

But I thought we should all believe Putin over U.S. intelligence...and that Putin's a stone-cold genius for claiming that Ukraine is actually Russian land...and that love letters from Kim are a good thing. I'm sure there's a good explanation.

Can't speak of them, but socialism is an economic system where means of production are publicly owned and controlled. Communism is a theoretical, utopian end-stage of socialism where the state itself withers away.
Actually existing socialist countries like USSR or Cuba were/are not communist, but they were/are controlled by the communist parties who strived toward this communist future.
This distinction between socialism and communism can be found in these Soviet-era Radio Yerevan jokes
Radio Yerevan (Armenian SSR) said:
Q: We are told that the communism is already seen at the horizon. What then is a horizon?
A: Horizon is an imaginary line which moves away each time you approach it.

This is Armenian Radio. Our listeners asked us, "When the final phase of socialism, namely communism, is built, will there still be thefts and pilfering?"
We're answering: "No, because everything will be already pilfered during socialism."

Question: Why did you not broadcast for such a long time?
Answer: We had to make some changes in our staff. The previous broadcaster, while reading an article that contained the words, "Socialism is nothing as compared with communism," made a pause too long after the word "nothing."

Question: Will the police still exist when communism is built?
Answer: Of course, not. By that time, all citizens will have learned how to arrest themselves.

Question: Why do we have all those shortages in meat supply?
Answer: We are approaching communism at such a high pace that the cattle lags behind.

Your distinction is meaningless in this discussion. Anyone who listens to MAGA types understands that "socialist" is anyone with whom they disagree.

I just wrote what these terms mean. I even prefaced it that I cannot speak for so-called "Christian nationalists".

If we are going by that, to the leftists (including on here), terms like "right-winger" and "MAGA" also mean "anyone with whom they disagree".

To be fair, the Venn Diagram of those two groups is pretty concentric and of remarkably similar size.

Since the GOP Congress has blocked efforts to make insulin affordable, California is creating its own state owned insulin factories to allow California's citizens to have reasonable costing insulin. Horrors! SOCIALISM! We cannot allow that in America!

He asked, “What are we going to do with the ones that are already here, that grew up here? I think we have to pass a new law for them.”

Trump knows his audience. Who are they?

In no small part, people who remember fondly the days of their youth...when there were "duck and cover" drills and politicians had committees that hunted down "the commies."

When certain conservative pundits came out awhile back and said "Joe McCarthy was right," they all replied with "finally! Someone gets it!"

And while they still worship Reagan and his "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" speech, they seem to have forgotten that a couple years after St. Reagan left office, the wall was indeed torn down and "international communism" went out with a whimper rather than a nuclear bang. But the propaganda programming is still there, and whenever they hear the word "communist" their (Miracle) ears perk up.

This is not a Trump invention. He's leaning into it hard right now, but the Republicans have been pushing this "the commies are still out there" line for quite some time now. Just listen to them when they talk about China. Whenever a Republican politician is a guest on a show, they never just say "China" or "the Chinese government." No, they take great care to say "The Chinese Communist Party" without fail. Never mind that the Chinese government is about as communist as North Korea is a Democratic People's Republic, but they need an enemy to scare people with, so it's "communist, communist, communist" all day long.

Because it works. Does it pull in the millennial and Gen Z voters who have no memory of the Soviet Union and the Cold War? No, but it gets their grandparents to show up in droves at the polls in Boca and Branson.

Trump praising the Christians is always good for a giggle. He's got them in his pocket even though he's the reverse image of the 8 beatitudes. Let's see...could Trump be blessed for being...
> "poor in spirit"? I looked this one up on a Franciscan website, which relates 'poor in spirit' to being humble as the poor supposedly are, and, quote, "not tempted to credit their cleverness or God's special favor for any financial success they might have." Yeah, no.
> "meek"?
> "they who mourn"?
> "merciful"? ("When someone hits me I hit back 15 times harder!")
> "clean of heart"? Well, he is a germophobe. Which means he probably Purelled a whole bunch after sessions with Stormy.
> "peacemakers"? Ask the Kurds.
> "they who hunger and thirst after justice" and "they who suffer persecution for justice's sake"? Now, I know there are Christians who would probably relate this to Trump's recent arrests, and to them I say, duck, I'm gonna hurl.

What those terms mean to you is not relevant unless you think Trump was speaking to people like you.
If we are going by that, to the leftists (including on here), terms like "right-winger" and "MAGA" also mean "anyone with whom they disagree".
A "whataboutism" is not an argument, even when it is true (which in your example is untrue).

I just wrote what these terms mean. I even prefaced it that I cannot speak for so-called "Christian nationalists".
I will. They don't give a flying fuck about definitions. That's why you hear bullshit from Magatards like "corporate communism" ,"atheists wanting to impose sharia law" and "cultural marxism".

both sides same-same argument. Nonsense. Yes, you wrote what the terms REALLY mean... which is not how they have been used. To refine, it would be more correct to say that MAGA folks call anything they categorize as part of the "Woke Agenda" in their minds as Socialist in nature... so it's just what they think is part of Woke, not just everything they disagree with... They have other names for that.. like "liberal" or "leftist".

The GOP war on communism goes back to the 1880s and is a convenient and easy way for their politicians to rile up their base. It will never end as long as it sells with their base.

The GOP weaponized communism and socialism during the FDR years when they redefined the words to apply to the new deal. Today, any program that is passed by the government that aids people or increases the safety net is "socialism". And many on the left continue to give them this victory.
