This is an interesting twist IRT the NRA may be actually engaging a discussion on at least one form of restriction. Though in reality it doesn’t seem that the NRA is changing their tune so much, as much of the talking heads and politicos are now much more focused on the idea. To get from having a hidden Govt. Watch List of potential terrorists, or the hidden no-fly-list, to actually requiring one of them to be parsed prior to a gun purchase will be a big leap. The reality is that this could be much more of a “slippery slope” issue that you hear the gun rights advocates usually railing on about, than some of the other things they fight. With the no-fly-list, you as an American have very few assumed rights, and have to bring the fight to the government to get off the list. Here is one court fight for 13 people that has taken 5 years to get resolved for 7 of the 13: http://www.aclu-or.org/nofly

In reality this may, and I say only may, do more for reigning in the abusive no-fly-list that actually do anything about guns. Even if Congress passes changes that have this part of the background check system, it will probably completely ignore private party sales and no-check gun show sales that occur in at least 30 states. If such a requirement is passed w/o fixing these huge purchasing loopholes, I would expect that a radical Inman will have a YouTube vid out within a week explaining the new world of American easy access to weapons. And what if some of these people already have guns? Will a new rule take them away? I doubt that for good reason. What happens when the next terrorist attack with an AR-15 was bought legally at a gun show in Butthole, Georgia with no background checks?
Well this circus will probably help guns and ammo sales, as well has convince Joe Six-pack to send another gift to the NRA or Gun Owners of America (GAO), more than accomplish anything else in a Presidential election year.

The NRA is instead focused on pushing for a way to remove people more easily from watchlists. "Due process protections should be put in place that allow law-abiding Americans who are wrongly put on a watchlist to be removed," the group wrote in the statement. The NRA argues that people on watchlists often wrongly end up there because of broad and secretive standards, and it's able to call on an unusual allies to help make that case. The ACLU and the Council on American Islamic Relations are two other prominent organizations that agree with the NRA's stance on civil liberties grounds.
