Here we go again!

Germany/Merkel made a really, really bad decision.

If they let in 800,000 open carry American gun-nuts wandering in the wilderness following a Clinton election, I'd say the same thing.

This problem is going to continue to get worse for Germany. One can acknowledge the fact that most Muslims are peaceful, while at the same time acknowledging that there are enough adherents to it such that the sudden influx of nearly a million of them is going to bring hell to any nation that does so.

Just as the right side of the political spectrum has its many problems, this is one of the left's; the unwillingness to acknowledge certain realities because it clashes with certain ideals. In this case, the ideal is that the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists. That's certainly true, but enough are to have made this predictable. Enough are so that rather than taking all these people in, Europe should have been shaming nations like Saudi Arabia into taking them.

What's so bleak about this situation in Germany is that there is no solution. Merkel cannot undo what she's done. Just like the horror-show specter of Trump trying to deport 11 million Mexicans, Germany would destroy itself by trying to deport 800,000 Syrians.

It is ignoramuses who equate Irish with Muslims.

What's being equated are the opinions held by some about both groups when they were first immigrating into a new place.

If the groups are not the same (they aren't), and their reasons for migrating are not the same (they aren't) and the socio-political context surrounding where they are migrating to and from is not the same (it isn't) then their is nothing similar let alone equivalent about the nature of or validity of the concerns about the impact of their immigration.

Yes there are xenophobic people who will irrationally ignore all fact and context and act like the massive and rapid immigrating any group is a problem, much like you ignore all fact and context and act all immigration is non-problematic. However, reasonable people form variable opinions on different instances of immigration because the consequences are variable depending on the varying realities referred to above.
