The article suggests that copyright holders hoped that because Trump has a lot of his own money dependent on his trademarks that he might be sympathetic to others who hold copyrights and trademarks.
I don't know why anyone would make that assumption. He has zero empathy and it's clear that much of Trump's net worth was derived by profiting on other peoples' investment in his failed ventures.
