House kills solo Democrat's bid to impeach Trump

The 332-95 vote divided Democrats, with 95 — a little more than 40% of the Democratic caucus -- voting against tabling it, or voting to keep it alive. There were 137 Democrats who joined all Republicans in voting to defeat the measure.

Green's decision to bring up his resolution presented a dilemma for impeachment supporters and moderate Democrats alike, as they're now on the record for their vote, even if Green's resolution was only focused on one issue — what he says is the President's "bigotry and racism" — out of many Democrats are wrestling with on whether to move forward on impeachment.

You’re a weird country that you haven’t already dealt with this.

... to the delight of trumpdindunuffins everywhere...

It's frustrating for many, for sure.
I am to believe (that is, the Dems want us to believe) that the plan is to get him voted out of office and have him arrested by the state of NY on various charges... as opposed to impeaching and not getting arrested. How this makes sense is beyond me.

Well, it does in regard to the fact that we know conclusively that, right now there are not enough Republicans in the Senate that will vote him out of office. So all the impeachment process will do (in Pelosi's mind at least) is allow him to once again claim vindication. Which in turn could be enough to--again in a fear-based environment--to get him re-elected.

Plus, they can ALWAYS impeach, so the politically intelligent move is to wait and see what happens in 2020. Not necessarily with the general, but with the Senatorial races that are all in peril.

If we can win back the Senate like we did the House in 2018--or at least enough seats to vote Trump out should he actually win again--then it won't matter that he won re-election.

And if the House impeaches and it all gets wrapped up before the Senate races in Trump's favor, that too could impact those races (and likely far more than it would impact the general).

Congressional races are even more tightly controlled by Republicans because they're cheaters and it's a hell of a lot easier to cheat on the local/state level than on a federal level. For that you need something on the order of, well, hmm, let's think....like the full attention of Russian intelligence.

So it's likely that Pelosi's bigger fear is affecting any of the Senate races first and foremost.

I am of the opinion, however, that you start the proceedings precisely because they first involve extensive and very public hearings and investigations, etc., so you get all of that out there and it impacts the swing voters (yes, there are ALWAYS swing voters, no matter how incredulous it may be to any of us that this is still possible).

The OTHER thing no one is taking into account, though, is that the Mueller report may have been submitted, but that is not the end of it. There is still Stone's trial (going on right now, at least in preliminary stages, but set for realz on November 5th) as well as a few others that we don't know anything about (but the House, of course, does).

So while we in the cheap seats think things should be moving instantaneously, there are many other things in process that we know nothing about that could have a huge impact on what happens next.

ETA: Not to mention the fact that Julian Assange is still facing extradition to the US (evidently in February will be his UK trial to determine that very fact) and it is pretty much guaranteed they'll extradite him (if he isn't killed first by Russian operatives).

Stone knows where all the bodies are buried (he buried many of them) and is very clearly the one who acted as the go-between for the Russians and the Trump campaign and Assange can confirm that. Stone's trial will likely be a lengthy one with many revelations and it starts one year to the month before the Senate elections in 2020. Which in turn means that his trial--and revelations coming out about it--will coincide with the lead up to those races.

Then in about February or March Julian Assange will be in US custody and his trials will begin (unless he does what he probably will do once he's finally in US custody, which is sing like his life depends upon it, which it absolutely does).

So there are at least two very heavy (perhaps the heaviest) components still not accounted for, but in the works and everyone in Congress, of course, knows what both Stone and Assange know (and don't know), pretty much (at least in regard to the big big items that Mueller knows they know, but couldn't prove without their confessions), so the revelations are going to be more of a shock to the public than to anyone in the corridors.

Plus, because these two are the bigger fish, it also likely means there are one or two smaller fish that are being fried in a more backroom alley kind of way that will really fuck things up. I don't know, of course, but Mueller is exceptionally intelligent and knew what he was doing and did it methodically, so it's likely he's hidden the most damning trials/investigations for private eyes to then use at a later date when the impact will be far more powerful.

But they all operate on a completely different news cycle than the rest of the world, so we all scroll and scroll and scroll and want it all RIGHT NOW.

So, I'm willing to wait and see what happens with Stone's trial in particular.
