A scorcher of an announcement today. Everyone is talking about this one. We've been waiting for a while to see where things were heading, but we now know that Luis Suarez is heading to Barcelona on what is rumored by BBC reports to be a 75 million pound transfer. I know my office in NE Ohio is just jittery over the news!

A massive transfer for a massive price. Will Liverpool be able to fill the Suarez gap, who will take over his role as the star player who pleads temporary insanity once a year, can Liverpool escape the Group Stage now in the Champions League, do opposing clubs in La Liga know the lyrics to Hall and Oates' Maneater? All these things and more being discussed at water coolers across Ohio and the rest of the nation.

Is there an Ohio in Europe?

This reminds me of the time a coworker was in a tizzy, when he heard that Haliwell had left the Spice Girls. The only thing that consoled this 24 year old man was that as long as Sporty Spice was still there, he'd be 'okay.'
Dead silence filled the office.
I had to point out, "Dude, don't take this wrong? But, like, the four of them could go over a cliff in Montana in a freak Monster Truck/Tornado accident, and i'd be 'okay.'"
He had to leave work that day, he was so upset.
After he was gone, the Chief asked me, "What's a Spice Girl?"

I don't know why i thought of that just now....

Man, the humor dies (if there was any humor to be had to begin with) when you have to explain it. The OP is juxtapositioning itself with another event in sports that happened today, something that those in Ohio would actually care about.

Seriously?! A 24 year old male couldn't handle the Spice Girls *poofing*? And are you comparing The Spice Girls with Liverpool/Barcelona. And yes... it actually is true, sadly, that more Americans probably cared about the Spice Girls than Liverpool/Barcelona/Luis Suarez. Such is the disease of boy and girl bands.

Hey, the Spice Girls were famous all over the freaking world, while the so-called 'World' Cup is merely famous everywhere except the US. Shows who's got their priorities in order, huh?

I assumed it was you contributing to the downfall of America as you know it.
