Our founding fathers looked upon the ancient governments of the Romans when crafting our Democracy. The concept of impeachment was not new... it was written into Roman law for Senators... but not for the Emperor. As a result, the only way to remove an Emperor was through Assassination (et tu Brutus?).
A better system for removing a leader that has gone off the rails than Assassination was thought to be impeachment... it is more civil, provided an opportunity for the leader to defend themselves, and was more surgically precise than an explosion, for example.
So, any president that finds themselves impeached should thank Congress for giving them the opportunity to defend themselves and the opportunity to continue to live.
If impeachment fails to remove them from office, should a leader be concerned that the citizenship will take matters into their own hands, like our founding fathers were concerned about.. and was standard practice prior to impeachment being offered as an option?
