A Bill that will give women access to abortion for the first time in the history of the State has been signed into law by President Michael D Higgins.

A statement released by Áras an Uachtaráin on Thursday evening said: “Having considered the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Bill 2018, the President has signed the Bill and it has accordingly become law.”

Minister for Health Simon Harris will now have to sign a number of statutory instruments to give effect to the Bill now that it is signed into law by the President.

Yea. Ireland joins the modern world.

Too right. As well as allowing abortion, Ireland is now in the top 10 world countries for both gender equality and atheism. Two female presidents in a row between 1990 and 2011. Gay marriage approved in 2015. The current prime minister, Leo Varadkar (below), elected when he was just 38, is the son of Indian immigrants and is openly gay.

Just don't ask me about my country, Northern Ireland. :(

Yeah, women in Ireland sure are much happier these days

"Last year, for the first time, female suicide rates there equalled that of men, reflecting a threefold increase in ratio terms."

"Traditionally, Ireland has had low rates of female suicide, particularly involving young mothers. But these figures point to a volatile situation that requires immediate attention and investment."

So legalizing abortion made women commit suicide in the past?

Besides, this is what your side is actually after--punishing women for non-reproductive sex. You want them to suffer. Admittedly, you don't want them committing suicide because that's escaping their punishment.

Tsk tsk
You normally think more clearly than that.

The society with a growing suicide and mental health problem is the same one that voted to legalise the murder of unborn human beings.

That article was not about 'women in Ireland', it was only about women in deprived parts of Dublin South Central in 2017. National rates are (a) low compared to other European countries and (b) have been declining (down 30-35% between 2000 and 2017, for both sexes, jointly and separately).
