Is Reagan's firing of the striking air traffic controllers a portent of a Trump presidency?

I just heard about the details of this now, and this seems like what possible future Trump moves would be.

Talk about going from 0 to 60 mph in 1 second. Damn, Reagan was seriously harsh in this.

Yes they had a contract with a no strike clause, but they could have done something moderately harsh for the union that gave Reagan and not Carter campaign money.

granted, it is becoming less likely for sure, but would he pull stuff like this?

Reagan secretly got them to be hired back.

A few were rehired, but most were not. Clinton hired some back when he was first elected, but most of the rehired controllers couldn't handle it and were washed out. ATC is a tough job. And taking a little time off will really set a person back.

yes

Double standards of course. If the government can rack up debts at US$3,605.00 a second I'm sure pay rises for Air Traffic Controllers will not even be noticed. The living standards of working people in Europe and the USA can often be traced back to unionization to ensure a reasonable return for labour. :)

True, but that doesn't take away from the fact they were hired back. That they could no longer handle the job is not relevant.

There is nothing from history that would be comparable to a Trump presidency.

Maybe Nero or Caligula?
