Islamophobia is when people in the US cry out against the building of a mosque.

Why do they? Is it just 'Islamophobia' or are there some legitimate concerns? Concerns that perhaps should be addressed?

This is where you would indicate any rational concern regarding he average Muslim in the United States, who are typically a lot less likely to be radicalized than in Europe.

Islam is about surrendering your will to Allah. It is about obedience to what you see as ultimate power, over the interests of your nation or fellow humans. This is worth of some concern. Islam is a religion, much like Christianity, with dogma that teaches many negative things and discourages people from thinking for themselves or with their own moral compass rather than with what they are toldf from their religion. This is also worthy of concern. These concerns do not equate to a phobia.

Bigotry is one thing, and yes there is a lot of bigotry against muslims, but there are also completely valid concerns that get written off by the PC folks as islamophobia.

There are certain variants of fundamentalist christianity that are very similar when it comes to unconditional submission to the will of Yahweh. The story of Abraham being commanded to sacrifice Isaac is often coupled with Jesus' statement that anyone who loves his parents or even his own life more than Jesus is not worthy. Add stuff like plucking out your eye or cutting off your hand or foot if they get in the way of service to Jesus and you've got all the makings of extremism.

These are the sorts of teachings (and brainwashing when taken far enough) that are worthy of concern.

Forget the Al Qaeda and Daesh types, go and speak with mainstream and even western Muslims and learn their doctrines. It is no more rational or harmless than Christian doctrine, even more obedience based. Genuine concerns over religious belief are valid concerns, as should be obvious to most atheists. This applies to Christians, Jews, Muslims and any other religious doctrine. Islam should not get a free pass just because people want to be PC.
