Read this this morning and thought about posting it up in the AOC thread but decided to play nice.

More than 1 million voters switch to GOP in warning for Dems

For example, in Lorain County, Ohio, just outside Cleveland, nearly every party switcher over the last year has gone Republican. That’s even as Democrats captured three-quarters of those changing parties in the same county during end of the Trump era.

Yes voters will blame Biden for everything. For prices at the grocery store and the gas station and their bleeding retirement accounts. The Republicans know this. They will take everything and hang it on nice guy Biden and he will finish last.

Will Democrats continue to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Will a Dem president and a Dem Congress continue to lose ground with the voters? Will the Democrats ever figure it out? Because right now it looks like the only ones doing anything to help the Democratic cause is a group of conservative Supreme Court Justices.

The good news for both Democrats and Republicans is that there is a chance that most of those former Democrats won't vote for loony candidates.

I'd be very hesitant to draw conclusions on this data. It could imply people swapping to impact primary races.

The article references Lorain County in Ohio (this would be west of Cleveland, where Elyria is).

2016 Election:
Clinton: 66,949 (47.6%)
Trump: 66,818 (47.5%)

The article notes that Dems got 3/4's of the party swappers. while Trump was President.
2020 Election:
Biden: 75,667 (48.1%)
Trump: 79,520 (50.5%)

So the change in party affiliation change appeared to have no impact on the results of the election in Lorain county. The trend to observe in Ohio was that Biden drove turnout very well in blue counties and expanded margins. But red and purple counties came out harder for Trump. This is a disturbing reality, especially among white people, who apparently are very bitter type of people.
