It’s Time to Stop Employer Credit Checks

Those companies will to lose a percentage of good employees for guarantee a larger percentage of good employees. Resumes and references don't work.

There is also a good article in today's Chronicle of Higher Education about the rise of credentials and certificates (bogus and legit) that will propel a candidate past others.

Neither do credit reports. That's Elizabeth Warren's point.

And Elizabeth Warren can start her own company and not use credit reports and get the best employees.

If I don't want to hire someone, wouldn't not looking for employees save even more time? And the credit report fees?

Why yes. If you are not looking to hire somebody there is no point in illegally obtaining a credit check and such a response to this thread is pointless.

Excellent. Now all we lack is a comprehensible reason why if you were trying to hire someone you would pay extra for a meaningless credit check so you can more easily reject qualified people.

She can also sponsor legislation to stop the use of credit reports during the hiring process.

Wait, she is!

If she thinks she is great running a business, she should be doing that. How many businesses has she ran, how many employees, market cap on them?

How many CEOs directly hire all staff in your version of reality?

If she started her own company or ran one from middle management she would be involved in the issues that affect a business. What has been Elizabeth Warren's career path?

Did she say she was great running businesses? If not, why are you inventing such statements?
How many businesses has she ran, how many employees, market cap on them?
I have no idea. This has what to do with the OP?

Her point is that she knows how to run a business better than someone running a business.

No, it isn't.

By outlawing credit checks, she is saying a business is wasting money paying for the credit check because she knows better than a business on whether or not that credit check is useful.

She is not outlawing credit checks.

"needs" beyond your means like gambling debts, drug addiction, mental illness, or just straight-forward irresponsibility?

Or: medical bills, job loss, caring for family members who are not supported by our social safety nets for one reason or another...
And don't forget those that have "low" numbers because they choose to pay in cash. After my husband divorced his first wife, he paid off any joint debts and closed the accounts. Since then, he has had no reason for 'credit cards', the house we live in is in my name (since before marriage) and the only credit he had was his truck which he paid off. His score was crap! Not enough credit was the reason!

She is not outlawing credit checks.

So she isn't proposing any legislation regarding what businesses can't or can't do?

What exactly is your point if not to derail this thread? Are you asking why a company would want to save time by cutting down an application pool?

What's that have to do with outlawing credit checks?

Credit checks will still be legal to do.

Just not for hiring purposes.

Boy, if you guys put half the energy you use finding reasons why we shouldn't do some things to better society into finding things we can do to better society we probably wouldn't be able to keep up with the flurry of new ideas!

I posted a link to research that shows credit checks are not predictive of how well someone will perform in a job.

No one's commented on that study yet or linked to any studies that show credit checks are predictive of how well someone will perform in a job.
