JFK Assassin's Son to be Next Supreme Court Justice?

WASHINGTON — A ceremonial resolution honoring the life of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg failed in the Senate on Tuesday after U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz JFK's assassin's son objected to language his Democratic counterparts added noting her dying wish that a successor not be chosen until after the presidential inauguration early next year.

The war of words on the Senate floor is likely a preamble to a coming brawl to replace Ginsburg. The liberal justice died Friday, leaving a vacancy that, if filled by a conservative, could have sweeping ramifications on several American policies and civil liberties.

"Unfortunately, the Democratic leader has put forth an amendment to turn that bipartisan resolution into a partisan resolution," Cruz JFK assassin's son said in his floor remarks, referring to U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer.

"Specifically, the Democratic leader wants to add a statement that Justice Ginsburg's position should not be filled until a new president is installed, purportedly based on a comment Justice Ginsburg made to family members shortly before she passed.

...

Capitol Hill observers are bracing for the nastiest fight in at least a generation in the Senate over Ginsburg's successor. President Donald Trump is expected to announce his nominee late this week, and Cruz JFK assassin's son is urging his colleagues to confirm that person before the November election.

Never forget.

So, I will say, if my father assassinated someone, I wouldn't want to be known for that. It would not be fair to me to reference me on the basis of the actions of my father.

So, to that end, why are you talking about him from the perspective of who his father killed rather than pointing out all the Zodiac Killings that Ted Cruz committed?

Well, they're really the same thing. He inherited bad genes and so he went on to murder people like his father. Not like the Trumps, they inherited good genes...and Trump even told that to a crowd of white Americans recently at a no-mask rally that they all had good genes.

No, but seriously, now, every right-winger who supports Trump and Cruz has to deal with the cognitive dissonance of what Trump did to Cruz during the primaries. If they can't tell he is a liar when he lies about Democrats, then surely, they should be able to figure it out when he lies about Republicans and then takes it back to serve his own ends. And now these guys are running the show to replace RBG, both of them.

Not surprising that this right-wing moneybags likes this pick.

Koch network campaign for support Trump Supreme Court nominee
The political advocacy group backed by billionaire Charles Koch is officially launching their campaign in support of President Donald Trump’s latest nominee to the Supreme Court.

The Koch linked group, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), moved ahead with what will likely be an expansive and expensive campaign for the organization to help push Trump’s nominee through the Senate. Trump on Saturday selected Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

Looking at Twitter "Catholicism" was once trending. It was about how if one objects to ACB's pushing conservative Catholic dogma, one is somehow an anti-Catholic bigot.

Opinion | Amy Coney Barrett: A New Feminist Icon - POLITICO
The author's affiliations are fun: "Erika Bachiochi is a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center and a senior fellow at the Abigail Adams Institute, where she founded and directs the Wollstonecraft Project. Her new book, The Rights of Women: Reclaiming a Lost Vision, will be released in 2021."

Like the anti-abortion "Susan B. Anthony List", trying to associate themselves with early feminists. But feminism is not about name-dropping.
But Ginsburg also viewed abortion rights as central to sexual equality, and her leadership helped give rise to a movement that remains laser focused on abortion to this day. Yet rather than make women more equal to men, constitutionalizing the right to abortion as the court did in Roe has relieved men of the mutual responsibilities that accompany sex, and so has upended the duties of care for dependent children that fathers ought equally to share.
That doesn't make any sense.

Barrett's participation in 2006 ad calling for overturn of Roe v. Wade was not included in Senate disclosures - "Democrats say she should have revealed the inclusion of her name on a list of signatures supporting the ad sponsor's mission."
President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett, failed to disclose her participation in a 2006 newspaper ad calling for Roe v. Wade to be overturned and ending its “barbaric legacy” when she submitted paperwork to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Barbaric legacy"???

Sen. Feinstein, Dems formally ask for delay in Amy Coney Barrett confirmation | Fox News - Dianne Feinstein, D-CA
Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, wrote Wednesday to Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the chairman of the committee, to challenge the Oct. 12 date he set for Barrett's confirmation hearing.

...
Now Democrats say there is not enough time to properly review Barrett's record.

"This timeline is a sharp departure from past practice," Feinstein wrote. "Even more, it undercuts the Senate’s ability to fulfill its advice and consent role and deprives the American people of a meaningful opportunity to gauge the nominee and her record for themselves."
Seems like more Republican Calvinball.

MSNBC on Twitter: "BREAKING: Senate Majority Leader McConnell says he will move to halt Senate floor activity until Oct. 19, ...." / Twitter
Senate Majority Leader McConnell says he will move to halt Senate floor activity until Oct. 19, but will permit cmtes. to continue with their work, including the Senate Judiciary Cmte.'s confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the US Supreme Court.

Chairman Graham's office: Senate Judiciary Cmte.'s confirmation hearings for Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the US Supreme Court will proceed as planned.

Senate Minority Leader Schumer: "Leader McConnell and Chairman Graham’s monomaniacal drive to confirm Judge Barrett at all costs needlessly threatens the health and safety of Senators, staff, and all those who work in the Capitol complex."
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "That’s if the GOP can even sustain a quorum.

If not, Dems can call roll and potentially delay proceedings - and we should.

We shouldn’t give McConnell an inch. Every minute matters." / Twitter

She's advocating playing hardball, something that seems atypical of AOC, because she is usually a very friendly sort of person. Like calling Nancy Pelosi "mama bear of the Democratic Party".

Guys: there's nothing to worry about. Trump vetoed actions to have a second round of bi-partisian covid-19 economic stimulus. He believes that important political tasks should be moved to the new administration/congress that will start after the November election. I'm sure that this must also apply to nominating a supreme court justice!

Elizabeth Warren on Twitter: "Today's sham hearing ..." / Twitter
Today's sham hearing – on a holiday, 22 days from Election Day, during a COVID-19 outbreak in the Judiciary Committee with a likely-exposed Chairman who won't get tested – shows just how far the GOP will go to steal another Supreme Court seat & hand our courts over to extremists.

Senate Republicans know that Amy Coney Barrett is dedicated to overturning Roe v. Wade. That’s why they’re rushing this hearing without forcing Barrett to disclose her full anti-choice background, like her talks and support of anti-abortion groups.

Senate Republicans know that Amy Coney Barrett will gut health care. That’s why they’re racing the clock to get her on the bench before the Supreme Court hears the case on November 10th that could deal the death blow to the Affordable Care Act.

Most Americans don’t want the Supreme Court to take away abortion rights. Most Americans don’t want the Supreme Court to rip away health care from millions of people. And most Americans believe that the next President should be filling this Supreme Court seat.

This absurd hearing is happening today because Amy Coney Barrett is the last hope for a desperate, undemocratically overrepresented party trying to cling to power just a little longer, & impose the agenda of billionaires, giant corporations, & far-right extremists on our country.

If today’s Supreme Court hearings to steal a Supreme Court seat make you furious, get in the fight and make your voice heard. The power isn’t just in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing room right now – the power is with you.
