Justice Department sues Omarosa Manigault Newman for failing to file financial disclosure report after she was fired

The White House is a freak show these days.

Sure, the number of people killed, displaced, or otherwise harmed isn't as bad as W's run, but that seems to be more out of dumb luck than anything else.

I'm not sure where best to post this, but here goes.

Trump loses case meant to silence former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman - The Washington Post
A New York arbitrator has rejected former president Donald Trump’s claim that Omarosa Manigault Newman — a former contestant on “The Apprentice” and presidential aide — violated a nondisclosure agreement by writing a tell-all book about Trump.

The arbitrator declared the agreement was invalid because it was too vague to be enforced.

Arbitrator T. Andrew Brown ruled that Trump’s campaign would now have to pay Newman’s legal fees.
“It’s over. We’ve won in Donald Trump and the Trump Campaign’s chosen forum,” OMN's lawyer said in a written statement. About others who signed non-disclosure agreements with Trump's campaign, “People who signed these NDA’s should sleep better and speak more freely.”

Trump Loses Case to Enforce Omarosa Manigault Newman’s N.D.A. - The New York Times
Donald Trump had filed the case against Ms. Manigault Newman, a former White House aide and “Apprentice” star, after she wrote a tell-all book about serving in his administration.

...
“Donald has used this type of vexatious litigation to intimidate, harass and bully for years,” Ms. Manigault Newman said in a statement. “Finally the bully has met his match!”

...
Mr. Trump’s campaign filed the case shortly after Ms. Manigault Newman published her book, “Unhinged.” It claimed that she violated a nondisclosure agreement she had signed during the 2016 campaign stipulating that she would not reveal private or confidential information about his family, business or personal life.

The book paints a picture of an out-of-control president who is in a state of mental decline and is prone to racist and misogynistic behavior.
It is also unflattering about Prince Jared and Princess Ivanka.
“The statements do not disclose hard data such as internal polling results or donor financial information,” Mr. Brown wrote. “Rather, they are for the most part simply expressions of unflattering opinions, which are deemed ‘confidential information’ based solely upon the designation of Mr. Trump. This is exactly the kind of indefiniteness which New York courts do not allow to form the terms of a binding contract.”
That's arbitrator Andrew Brown.
At another point, Mr. Brown wrote that the agreement “effectively imposes on Respondent an obligation to never say anything remotely critical of Mr. Trump, his family or his or his family members’ businesses for the rest of her life.”

The arbitrator added, “Such a burden is certainly unreasonable.”

Mr. Phillips, who is based in Florida, said the lawsuit had been an abuse of power by a sitting president. “It’s over,” he said. “We’ve won in Donald Trump and the Trump campaign’s chosen forum.”

What personal life? If you're President, or running for President, you don't have a personal life. It's the ultimate spectator sport, dissecting your entire life on the stage, down to the color of your suit and the angle of the flag pinned on the lapel.
And Florida Man ran as an incredibly successful businessman. His businesses were the selling point for putting him at the helm. He nationalized his business acumen, and certainly didn't divest any of that shit when he won.
And his family? I could see Barron having some right to privacy, due to his age and due to his never having a conversation with the President. But the other Trump goblins running around the West Wing, influencing policy and selling Goya out of the White House, they were part of the government, thus a public interest.

So, no, you don't get to have it both ways. You can't say 'I'm a soccer mom' or 'I'm a working stiff' to use 'just like you' for your campaign and then say 'my soccer van' or 'my job performance' is off-limits.

Well, dumb luck seems about right. Through almost pure hubris, Trump somehow managed to get many more people killed, most of them Americans, and he is the leading candidate for the GOP in 2024. Wow! So that is how democracies die.
