I didn't know a lot about him. His background is amazing.

If you look up Renaissance man in any dictionary, you'll likely find his image. Singer, songwriter, actor, rugby star, Oxford Phi Beta Kappa key holder, Rhodes scholar, Army officer and Ranger, helicopter pilot, one time boyfriend of Janis Joplin, husband of Rita Coolidge, member of the Highwaymen with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, friend of more of Nashville and Hollywood A-listers than I can mention here.
He lived a well-deserved charmed life and passed away peacefully at his home on Maui.
