Just wondering here---

How do all of you manage to come up with these connections? Whenever I have tried, I have gone on to IMDB, but have been unable to get any links in a short number of steps (2 or 3 or 4, say). Do you make these steps just in your own memory and know the actors/actresses well enough in your head to connect them, or do you go to some other website for assistance? You all seem to get the actors/actresses in just a few steps or so, which is nice to see.

for the ones i answered -I just used IMDB, but I have a decent store of worthless movie trivia knowledge that helps guide me. I usually have two tabs open for each actor so I can work forwards & backwards. If the two actors are from different generations, then I try to focus on finding young actors in the earlier actors' movies and vice versa for the later stars. Also some dumb luck helps.

I try to do it based on my knowledge of films. Which is why I rarely ever get a connection.

The easiest way is to click some of the movie links of one of the actors until you find somebody famous. Then click the links of the other actor until you find somebody famous. Then those two famous people can usually be tied together fairly easily.

What I do is similar to CJW's method--I will often open IMDB tabs for each actor and start cross checking, etc. Being of a generation accustomed to writing things down, I also keep a pen-and-paper list of prominent costars for each actor, which helps me to jog the old memory.

Now, off to put this into practice for Fay Wray and Tilda Swinton.

2. Henry Fonda was in Once Upon a Time in the West with Gabriele Ferzetti
3. Gabriele Ferzetti was in I Am Love with Tilda Swinton.

I do the same. I open a tab for each actor at IMDB. Every time I find a promising connection I open that in a new tab. For Clark Gable, I opened a tab on him and the movies I thought might lead me off in the right direction. Luckily, I picked Run Silent Run Deep as one of them. Then working on the Mel Gibson side, I chose a few movies to check out that I was pretty sure had actors with long careers in it, such the movie Maverick. I found the link via Brad Dexter pretty quickly but that was just because I like James Coburn and was checking out his movie roles.

I also write things down. Some of these searches have gotten pretty long, and I get confused about who was in what with whom. Also, I look for trends. If an actor had a long run of one type, like Westerns or Film Noir, I concentrate on that type of movie in my searches for links.
