PARIS, FRANCE -- As bond rates for French debt climb higher, a desperate President Macron tried to score a payday for his nation at the United State's expense. While speaking to President Trump at the UN on September 26, Macron raised the issue of the United States owing France over tens of billions of dollars. President Trump asked what he was talking about and Macron referred to a deal with France the US made for being allowed to use the large mass of land west of the Mississippi. The French leader successfully convinced the American President that the US had "borrowed" the piece of land for long enough and that either France had to get the mineral rights back and be paid royalties or the US would need to buy the territory.
Trump conceding that all the Presidents before him dropped the ball on this and what was "another $50 billion in debt?" The excited French leader went back home with a small little windfall. Meanwhile, it was Secretary of State Marco Rubio who, when he heard of the transfer being drawn up, immediately sought to ask the President why we were paying France for the Louisiana Purchase again. The US President became dismayed that the French leader attempted to con him out of $50 billion, but then quickly forgot that the conversation ever happened. The French President received a electronic message from the Secretary of State saying "Nice try."
*editors note, France was so desperate for money, they sold the Louisiana Purchase for just $370 million in today's money! But that wouldn't be as funny.
