Complaints about press bias are as old as the press itself, but in recent decades, conservatives have pushed one complaint above all other: The media is biased against them because it is overwhelmingly staffed by liberal journalists. A new study, forthcoming in Science Advances, provides the strongest evidence ever that they’re half-right — but only the least important half: Yes, reporters overall are significantly more liberal than the general population. In fact, almost one in six are more liberal than Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, based on who they follow on Twitter. But no, that doesn’t matter — even for the most liberal cohort of them. The title of the study says it all: “There is No Liberal Media Bias in the News Political Journalists Choose to Cover.”

In short, despite being dominantly liberals/Democrats, journalists do not seem to be exhibiting liberal media bias (or conservative media bias) in what they choose to cover. This null is vitally important — showing that overall, journalists do not display political gatekeeping bias in the stories they choose to cover.

But how much liberal bias was in the study? We all know academia is just a hotbed of leftist perversion.

Exactly--we don't know.

It seems to me krypton iodine sulfur was being sarcastic.
Add sarcasm to the list of things LP doesn't get.

But this isn't really shocking or surprising in the least. Hell, we liberals were a lot harder on Obama (in the sense that his little mistakes drew harsh, but accurate, criticism from the progressives and media all the time) compared to the shitheel in the WH now. Some of this is due to outrage fatigue, I'm sure, but if one wants to really see terrible bias, you have to look at the right wing radio and TV. For whatever reason, even right leaning print media isn't as bad. Maybe it has to do with the reading ability of the 'average' right winger. ;)

[She] probably was. I'm saying the issue is valid, though--it's very hard to truly determine conservative/liberal bias because we lack a good measure of unbiased.

The joke was about knee-jerk rejections which serve to entrench bias more than genuinely question. From the information available thus far, the study does not appear to be biased.

The story headline feels a little misleading, though technically true. The study doesn't detect political bias in one particular variable for which it tested. That doesn't mean bias doesn't exist in other ways which this study wasn't examining.

The leftist bias in academia is usually based on progressive movements. As an example, schools used to teach men are men and women are women as set in stone fact. That was the standard in biology. But now with the progressive movement of the SJW leftists, "men can be women and women can be men" is now taught in schools as set in stone fact.

Stuff like this is what makes us conservatives shake our heads and wonder why academia must always cave to the progressive leftists. There is a heavy leftist bias when it comes to schooling. But the funny thing is, leftists insist that history taught in schools is conservatively biased.

My perspective is that actual sources of news, ( not Fox which is primarily propaganda ) have either a mild liberal or a mildl conservative bias. That doesn't mean that they don't report the facts, but all of us have a bit of personal bias which makes it close to impossible to be completely objective. The NYTimes, the best source of journalism, imo, has a mild liberal bias, but they also have quite a few conservative editorialists and unlike some so called news sources, the Times will correct itself if they report something that turns out to be untrue.

Editorialists and pundits are usually quite biased, but I don't consider them to be actual news. They are just giving their opinions.

Agreed. True news will be somewhere close to objective and the extremists are more about their position than the truth.
