"Whitehall officials said that the attacker was released early from a three-year sentence at the end of January, where he had been serving a sentence for possession and distribution of extremist material. Concerns about his behaviour in prison included “language that suggested he continued to hold extremist views”.

"He left prison a few days ago and was under heavy surveillance and licensing conditions, according to officials, measures that included a curfew. “That is what allowed police to do their job so quickly. It could have been much worse than it was,” government insiders said."
