On the day police stopped Hargrove, officers had been looking for a suspect — described as a 25- to 30-year-old, bald black man standing 5-foot-10 and weighing about 170 pounds

“She appeared to be a male and matched the description of the suspect that had brandished the machete and was also within the same complex the suspect had fled to,” Christopher Moore, the arresting officer, wrote in his report.

But Hargrove is none of those things.

For starters, she is female. She stands 5-foot-2 and weighs 115 pounds “soaking wet,”

According to the police report, Hargrove was arrested for resisting or delaying an officer and aggravated assault on an officer. Hargrove was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries, including abrasions on her face and scrapes and punctures from the police K-9’s “engagement on her right thigh,” Moore, the arresting officer, wrote in his report.

Keep in mind, she is NOT the bald man they were looking for, so what - exactly - was she "resisting arrest" for?

They detained her, searched her illegally, punched her, threw her to the ground, and set the dog on her... and she doesn't even remotely resemble the suspect they claimed to be looking for!

I am sure someone will explain to me how this was all her own fault, and how she's a "thug"

The charges against Ms. Hargrove have been dropped - http://www.turnto23.com/news/local-news/a-press-conference-discussing-details-of-the-case-involving-tatyana-hargrove-will-be-held-wednesday.

According to the clips in the link, the DA claims the officers did not learn of the suspect's baldness until an hour after her arrest. She "fit the description" because she wore a white shirt, had a pink backpack and is black.

Thanks for the update. That's good to know. But...

"Due to insufficient evidence, I do not believe that we can convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt that a crime was committed," Green said.

... I'm not particularly satisfied with their response. I'm with Unter on this one... the charges never should have existed.

This is just what cops do when they know they screwed the pooch. You make the victim out to be the bad guy with numerous charges, all done to cover your ass. If the poor fuck goes to jail the ruse worked. If not, you're none the worse for giving it a try.

It is pretty clear the police over-reacted on this. At least the DA is not compounding the screw-up by pursuing the bogus charges.

I agree with you on that.

And the police chief apologized to the family.

And most important of all, the young woman isn't dead.

Oh that's so funny, my boyfriend has a similar story. The cops roughed him up and busted his lip open with a nightstick because he "Fit the description of some black guy stealing car stereos." He wears trench coats and had a green Mohawk at the time.
