Well that's just it, Clase was throwing pitches for others to bet on for $5k in his pocket. Why? He was proving himself to be one of the best closing pitchers in baseball. Now he's looking at at least a lifetime ban from the game and at most the rest of his life behind bars. Certainly, engaging in crime and self-destructive behaviour, in order to obtain more of something you already have lots of, looks like addiction.
