New Way To Fast Food

Automation has been driven by both consumers and management, so yes they are a lot of times when top down controls it. And I have pointed out that is where your system will fail over time because it will be slow to adapt to it. Would the union in your fast food restaurant vote in favor of reducing the staff by 50% to put in order machines?

Can I get an example of some of these consumer driven drives to automate their jobs out of existence?

huh?

CAN I GET AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THESE CONSUMER DRIVEN DRIVES TO AUTOMATE THEIR JOBS OUT OF EXISTENCE!?

Huh. A consumer isn't a job. So how does a consumer automate something out of making themselves a consumer?

I guess in coloradoatheist world consumer's and worker's are two separate entities and never the twain shall meet?

So try and find an example of a specific bank teller that used an ATM?

Why? ATMs haven't put bank tellers out of work.

ATMs have put a lot of them out of work. And banks are closing branches and minimally staffing them as much as they can. The volume at branches is dramatically lower than just 15 years ago.

Not according to The Economist.

But as a bank teller would you know for sure that new ATMs would add jobs or remove jobs? I would make the assumption removing the job.

What about Comcast employees that use Netflix or Red Box?

There are many functions bank tellers do other than cashing checks or receiving deposits.

What about Comcast employees that use Netflix or Red Box?
What about Netflix and Red Box employees who use Couchtuner?

All other things being equal one would have to be an abject moron to think ATMs and online banking wouldn't lead to fewer bank tellers.

The reason bank tellers did not go down (until recently) is all other things weren't equal. There was a proliferation of bank branches, and the job of a bank teller has changed to some degree.

You need the internet to use Netflix and Comcast is a giant ISP so not seeing the conflict on that one.

Red who?

Streaming shows would be the new technology instead of using cable TV, so yes someone from Comcast or Dish using netflix would be a consumer going with a different technology than what was there.

And based on your logic, how would McDonalds workers know if those video screens at these stores will or won't lead to different jobs at McDonalds?

Apparently so, just like for a certain someone here who loudly complains about overpaid workers.

All other things being equal one would have to be an abject moron to think ATMs and online banking wouldn't lead to fewer bank tellers.

One would also have to be a moron to use all other things being equal as a basis for anything applying to the real world.

So in this case where order machines would be up front, should people at a fast food place assume they are meant to replace some of them or can they assume that they will be doing something else?

I think in the next few years OTR truck drivers are going to start losing their jobs to robotics driven trucks. Brick masons, a highly skilled trade, will also start feeling the pain as robotic brick layers take over.

Oh man, you really got me with that one!

You didn't answer me. Should the workers there assume that new tool will replace their job?

Why wouldn't they? That's not an "all else being equal" circlejerk. That's taking management at their word when they say the automated order takers are going to mean fewer jobs.

And why wouldn't the tellers at the banks think all else being equal?
