NFL playoffs

24-0 at half, I'm calling it over.

Falcons are on a roll at the right time, I think they'll win their next game too.

Edit: Now 31-0.

What should be the penalty for the guy who pulled the fire alarm at the hotel the Steelers were in at 3 a.m.?

Not a Steelers fan, but I hope he is financially ruined. No joke.

Well, Falcons just overwhelmed Green Bay's defense. Quite frightening really. Green Bay's offense, while lacking, was also irrelevant. Falcons didn't score on what, one or two drives?

However, Matt Patricia and Bill Belichick are up to the task with solving offenses. The Patriots have ruined plenty of great offenses in the AFC during the last 15 years. Of course, this presumes the Steelers don't put together a remarkable comeback.

NE has the best balance of any team, they should be favored.

The Steelers have never been able to figure out the Pats, on offense or defense. A bad Ravens team would put up a better fight than a good Steelers team.

I've never liked playing Baltimore. Their defense usually is a bigger threat than most teams.

Atlanta's offense is great, but some people seem to be selling the Patriots short. They have one of the best offenses, and one of the best defenses, granted, they didn't play many Atlanta's this year. Pittsburgh was hurt, so the domination isn't as telling. The Steelers lost their key running back early.

I really have no idea what to expect at the Super Bowl, though lean on Patriots solving the Falcons offense. They've done it over and over and over. The only teams that beat the Patriots, did so by pressuring Brady the entire game and limiting his effectiveness.

The Pats looked really good in the charity game against that high school team. When are the Steelers coming to town?

A quick google search makes it appear that they could potentially be charged with culpable negligence, which is a second degree misdemeanor. The max penalty is only 60 days in jail, but they can be charged with a separate count for every single person in the hotel at the time. So, in principle could spend years in jail.

There is also inducing panic charges that can be applied to falsely reporting a fire or other emergency.
Apparently in Massachusetts, this could get a person up to 1 year in jail, but also as little as $100. Since they did it at a crowded hotel, it should be closer to the latter. But given that this appears to happen often to visitors when playing Belicheat, local authorities seem to do everything they can to give the minimal charges and punishment.

Don't think a team has brought a civil suit for it, but they should. Even just forcing they guy to pay for all those hotel rooms could cost him close to $20,000.

Sure, if the team wins, but the Steelers don't win in New England. They'd probably file in the wrong jurisdiction or some other stupid mistake.

This stuff seems to happen all the time in the playoffs. The man was arrested.

Patriots were 'victims' of this back before the Super Bowl two years ago.
article said:
The hotel said it is looking into what caused the false alarm, which was reportedly the second one in the last three nights at the team's hotel.

Yeah, really. Loosing Bell in the first quarter was more than they could afford. He isn't just half the offense, but helps the team control the clock. Keeping the ball out of Brady's hands was vitally important. Looks good for NE, but Atlanta is playing well...

I think that the results of the Super Bowl are going to end up being based on the offense and defense of each of the teams. If New England can manage to score more points than Atlanta, they're going to win.

Nah, it all comes down to special teams. :)

Oi! It certainly did in '97 when the Pats lost to the Packers. Fucking Desmond Howard and his one good game of his pro career. ;)

Although a joke, now that I look at the stats, they do seem to predict that an Pats-Falcons matchup will be more impacted by special teams play than offense, though not as much as by defense.

Overall, offense and defensive efficiency predict total wins over the season about equally and moreso than special teams efficiency. But in any given matchup, it is where the 2 teams are the least similar that is likely to be the bigger determining factor in who wins.

Advance stats that measure the "value-added" by each aspect of teams, estimate that their two offenses are almost identical (and the top 2 in the league) in value added. However, Pats have a ranking of 6 on special teams vs. 13 for Falcons.
Pats also have a big edge on defense of 11 versus 22.

Yeah, but THEY MUST LOSE.
