Time for a Pens three-peat!

After following along last season I'm really looking forward to this year. Hockey is becoming my new sport of choice after following baseball since about 2012.

Going to be fun to watch the Pens try to do it again.

Is anybody in the US familiar with Bob McKenzie? He's a hockey personality on TSN in Canada, but I believe does occasional stints with NBC too. Really smart, professional, unbiased guy who knows the game inside and out.

Recently discovered his podcast called 'The Bobcast' (http://www.tsn.ca/bobcast) which is worth listening to if you have the time. Usually he tells stories for a little bit then spends about 30-40 minutes fielding hockey questions from fans. Lots of unique insight during the show, which comes out every other Friday.

Just including the above in this post as something useful while I plug that I just got tickets to a Canada-Czech Republic junior exhibition game in my city. It's no NHL or senior men's game, but I'll take it for 30/ticket.

My Blues took them out in the season opener, and went on to win the next three games as well. I did root for the Pens in the finals last year, though, so I would not be unhappy to see them do it again. Crosby has been one of my favorite players for a while now.

What happened to his brother, Doug?

I'm predicting that the Toronto Maple Leafs will win the Stanley Cup this year. I make the same prediction every year and I hope to be right at least once in my lifetime.

1993, last Stanley Cup I'll ever see. :(

Inching closer. Could see them hitting the conference finals in the next few years.

Ya, every now and again they start having potential. It's their way of making it more painful and depressing for the fans when they fuck it up and fall apart because they got our hopes up first.

Seems like they may have a bit more potential than usual right now, and they've also got youth on their side.

Getting past the pens will be a tough order, though.

Came across another good Podcast: Spittin' Chiclets

More oriented toward hockey culture than Bob McKenzie's podcast. Gets you more inside the game from the player's perspective.

The Leafs are in Pittsburgh tonight, been looking forward to this one for a while. Even better, my partner is in Toronto so I can just sit here, drink beer, and watch the game in silence.

Leafs looking good so far.

Living just minutes from the Paint Can the Pens have always been my team.

My brother jumped on board when he was a kid, during the Lemieux years. Until last season I hadn't paid attention to the NHL in a long while because I was too busy with school, but with the Pens at the top of their game, and my brother already a fan, I figured it'd be a good time to jump on board.

Especially because it gives me and my brother something to talk about, in the same way becoming a Tigers fan a few years ago gave me and my dad some more common ground.
