Not the Onion:

Obama slams republicans for being in pocket of billionaires, goes to $30,000 per person fundraiser at the home of Rich Richman's Greenwich, CT mansion.

President Barack Obama chided the Republican Party for catering to the 'interests of billionaires' in an email to supporters on Tuesday, then attended a series of high-dollar fundraisers, including one at real estate mogul Rich Richman's house.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser at Richman's house in Greenwich, Connecticut, cost as much as $32,400 a person, according to the White House.

The fundraiser in Connecticut was held near the Greenwich Polo Club at the home of Rich Richman, chairman of one of the largest owners and developers of rental housing in the nation.

President Obama blasted Republicans as the party of “billionaires” on Tuesday while mingling with high-rollers at the $26 million estate of Rich Richman — yes, that’s his real name — in Greenwich, Conn.

Richman, who built his $10 billion company developing rental housing, lives in the Conyers Farm area, where the minimum lot size is 10 acres. Twenty-five donors paid $32,400 each to get their photo taken with the president. Others paid $10,000 for dinner.

While Obama was schmoozing — and the press pool was playing billiards in the basement — he was also soliciting donations for House Democrats in an e-mail.

“If Republicans win, we know who they’ll be fighting for,” Obama said. “Once again, the interests of billionaires will come before the needs of the middle class.”

Obama arrived from New York City — where he had attended a fundraiser with hedge-fund billionaires George Soros and Paul Tudor Jones — in a convoy of four helicopters that landed at the Greenwich Polo Club

I like the part where the press is playing billiards in the basement.

In Obama's defence, he was referring to the evil billionaires who support Republicans and not the good billionaires who support Democrats. It's misrepresenting him to call him a hypocrite by not acknowledging that distinction.

See, these are the good billionaires. You have the good billionaires and the bad billionaires. These are the good ones. They push scraps off the table. The bad billionaires kick you.

Isn't taking money from billionaires - such as charging them $32,000 for dinner - a good thing?

One would be hard pressed to find someone here who thinks Obama has taken it to the rich.

Well, he is good at billiards.

Not when you give each of them $3 million in tax incentives and government contracts as a result of them being at the dinner. I really doubt that there is a single person who spent the money to be at the dinner who will end up with less money as a result of being there. They are willing to pay this type of premium in exchange for access for a solid business reason and business is good.
