Gee BB I did not know that people still today speak so highly of that war criminal Kissinger. Call me stupid but I thought that history swept that chilling murderer under the rug of decency a couple of wars ago.
Just what were Kissingers "war crimes"? I asked that of a poster on these boards a while ago and he produced a list. Unfortunately for him, not one item on that list occurred while Kissinger was in office either as Secretary of State or as National Security Adviser. Most of our schools today, I fear, are filled with former war protestors who put their ideology ahead of actual evidence. Certainly, Kissinger was no saint. Saints don't make for good Secretaries of State, but I don't see where he differed much from his predecessors or his successors except, perhaps, for the fact that he gets blamed for their deeds.
Heh speaking of decency some of this thread sure sounds a lot like good ole Dick speaking on Fox News the other day in relationship to the newly coined talking point repeated ad nauseum word of "weakness." Is that not the point of this thread BB in how the President is "weak?" I mean that is what I hear and read coming from the 24/7 hate media. It can be confusing when people explain how the President is weak and soft on foreign policies on one hand then turn around and claim that he is also "reckless," on the other. So by being weak using sanctions that do have real world financial consequences what should a "non weak" president with all those so called democratic loving right wing skin heads and Nazi Ukrainians types do? Maybe we should take the advice of some of the Chicken Hawks in Congress and invade or bomb someone? This usually seems to show a world who is not a weak president. War is Peace, Love is War, god bless America and pass the ammunition or something like that.
A perfect example of utterly missing the point of this thread. If you took English literature, even in high school, you surely must have learned of a literary technique called "irony." Why, since Obama has in fact been so reckless, should he be accused of being weak? Well, take a look at the little story that I opened this thread with. Do you think I was just so overcome with nostalgia that I have to confess this little point that otherwise had no relevance to what I was writing?
When you talk tough, you have to follow through, and if you fail to follow through or your follow through is laughably weak, then you look weak. What if you don't talk tough in the first place? Then you don't look weak.
Obama HAS been tough, but his rhetoric has been even tougher than his ability to respond, therefore he looks weak. Go back and re-read this post. Maybe with a little effort you'll be able to figure out what I'm saying.
I do not understand why or how Syria is a threat to Russia on account of a naval base there. Are you saying that Assad would jeopardize all those rubles, investments and military aid from Putin and his cronies by threatening to close or take over their only Mediterranean port? And why would the Chinese or in fact anyone refuse to buy American T-Bills? Call me stupid but I though that American T-Bills are one of the world's best investments. Hence this is why so many people including most Americans buy them; America pays on its debt and bonds.
No. No. No. Putin isn't worried about ASSAD kicking Russia out, he's worried that WE will kick out Assad and THEN our new puppet government will kick the Russians out.
Well, you invited me to call you stupid, but I won't avail myself of that opportunity. How about misinformed? No. US T-bills aren't the one of the worlds best investments although they are a whole lot better than T-bonds. T-bills carry hardly any interest return at all. It is certainly below the rate of inflation. T-bonds pay a little better interest rate, but they are risky because they can't be redeemed in the short term. As a result, there are hardly any overseas buyers of US Treasuries anymore and very few domestic buyers because the US savings rate in negligible. The reason Treasuries haven't fallen precipitously is because the alternatives aren't good either. The euro is no good because of the PIGS. The yen is no good because the Japanese economy is shit. The yuan is hard to acquire because it is not fully convertible. The dollar is needed to buy oil so that gives Treasuries an advantage, but now Russia has said it will sell oil for rubles so we'll have to see how that plays out and how quickly.
You talk about the dollar deflating yet did not the Russia stock market drop 10% after the take over of the Crimea? You got to hand it to those Russians and their naval bases in the Crimean. Did not the Russians fight the Turks, the English, the French, the Greeks and of course the Nazis for control over the Crimean in a butt load of wars there? Maybe Putin is getting all warm and fuzzy over himself just thinking of all those dead Russians getting killed defending the Crimean over the years. Or maybe it is just all those billions of Rubles invested over the years in modern navy logistics there. Do not they still keep their Black Seas Fleet based at Sevastopol? And we both know that the Russians still have a modern and fully stocked naval force there along with many weapons platforms. Gee what a shocker that they invaded the Crimean right BB?
Russia did not invade Crimea. They already had 25,000 troops there under treaty with Ukraine. All Russia did was make those troops available for the defense of Crimea when the Crimean parliament voted to secede. (Unlike east Ukraine, Crimea was already an autonomous republic). Ukrainian forces in Crimea surrendered without firing a shot.
Thanks Boneyard Bill because it is always nice to hear another fellow human repeat sounds coming from the mouths of good decent people like Kissinger or even better yet a Dick Cheney. Too bad all those 100's of 1000's of people got killed because of true patriotic men like Henry and Dick being "strong," and not "weak."
Again, more missed irony. I think Dick Cheney is an idiot and thoroughly condemned his support for the Iraq War and almost everything else he has said. No need to refute him logically, however, since almost everything he says is lies. So you just have to cite the facts.
Heh but it sure sounds good. You know how words and actions, especially geo-political ones, have ramifications in the real world. I mean just ask JFK when he had to really deal with a Russian mad man. You must remember Nikita Khrushchev and that little thingy with the missiles in Cuba and Turkey? Whew! Good thing there was another weak progressive liberal democrat in the White House then like there is today.
Kennedy was weak, but that's WHY we had a missile crisis. If Kennedy had been stronger we probably could have avoided it, but that's really another story and a very long one so I won't go into it.
Just think BB if we had a real strong, not weak, conservative hawk in the White House back during that Cuban Missile Crisis thingy the world as we know it would be different today. I bet that at least half the fregin world be in radio active funbag lane with all those nuclear detonations and stuff. And who said that being a weak president can not have benefits?
Please, if you haven't got anything to say, don't write at all. You're just wasting cyber-space.
Thanks Boneyard Bill and keep up the good work. Oh and by the way if some people think the minions of wingnuts and legions of alternative Fox News Reality, reg TM, hate that black man in their White House, just wait till the B**** otch gets in. See instead of claiming someone weak with the nuclear codes they could claim Hillary too old. See is not this fun?
Peace
