If I think I have a soul, does that mean I think I'm an alien?

A soul is this supernatural thing that lives inside me and that has a life of its own after I die. In some religious cases it reunites with my body. In other cases it just assumes this new life of its own out there somewhere with other beings like itself.

After death the soul goes through a kind of abduction. it gets to this place somewhere out there, gets there somehow, where it begins this new existence. No one is able to explain how this spooky abduction occurs, it's just kinda automatic, so the intelligence able to orchestrate it is certainly not terrestrial.

Now if you tell someone who takes this soul thing seriously that they're pretending they're an alien you'll get a look like you're crazy. But thinking about it this way it makes sense to me. Religion is goofy in much of what it teaches, without all the goofiness it wouldn't be religious, just weird. But if the weirdness is given religious legitimacy it is no longer weird or goofy, it is now something sacred and acceptable.

So to me people who claim they have souls are also claiming to be aliens.

Trying to find the flaw in this...

Sounds like Scientology mythology-theology about aliens and humans.

The religious outlook is that you ARE a soul. At the moment, you HAVE a body, but that will change.
The materialist outlook is that you has a body, with you being an operating system tied to that chassis. It may or may not contain a soul accessory, of dubious purpose, with tenuous connection to the YOU that contains your greatest younessness.

So you're mixing contexts in your question.

Either "I am a soul = i am an alien."

Or, "I have a soul = i am (possessed by/being ridden by/in contact with) an alien."

So how do think this line of discussion and inquiry would fly with your standard aftelifer?

At Landover Baptist, there is a debate over women having souls. Opinions? I think the subtext of Eve's banishment, combined with the Bible's admonishments that wives follow their husbands, indicate that women lack souls. That's why they're even told in the NT to shut their yappers in church and take spiritual instruction from the men. Sidebar: This also explains Kirstjen Nielsen, doesn't it?

Religious psycho babble never disappoints.

Ah - the two of you do realize that Landover Baptist is a satire site, right?

However, if there were such things as souls, Kirstjen slipped through the assembly line of Jehovah's elves without the installation.
